As loose as this is, would it still be functional? Seems like quite a bit of slop.

That's way tighter than mine. I watch so mind doesn't fall out. When it does I will cut it off and weld on a new end like I did on the other side.
 
If they are loose I would not let a kid use the tractor plowing or doing anything that
might cause them to break out.

Reminder: if one side ball joint breaks out and let's a plow, disc or cultivator come
around and climb up the tire, you could get hurt.

On my old tractor, I replaced both lower arms when felt they were unsafe.

It's up to you.
 
Not a problem. I bought a new tractor in 1999. Very tight balls and somewhat hard to hood up implements.
 

I have a NEW tractor I can not wait till it wares so It will hook up EZ... I have to beat the arms on and off with a rawhide hammer. When I use my 3000 it slips on are I can use a my foot and kick them on.. :evil:
