Having trouble getting my throttle adjusted. The only way I can run my 8n more than 2/3 throttle is to hold the throttle lever. If I let go it goes back down to about 2/3. I tried turning the stop screw out on the governor and that had no change. What linkage should I adjust? And how should I adjust it longer or shorter? The spring on the governor seems to be fine, it's snug but not tight and no play. Also, how much oil to put in it? Do I keep adding until the tube is full?

Sounds like the friction plate is going bad. Close to the bottom of the throttle rod there is a plate sort of thing that is what holds your throttle where you set it and if bad will cause that

if you have the full range of throttle- ie the lever will move thru the full quadrant, but wont stay in place in the upper 1/3, then its probably what old said the friction plate. if you follow the throttle rod under the dash down near the top of the bellhousing area you should see I think two nuts with spring on there? im not sure its been awhile.

Throttle plate on the dash, ball bearing in the throttle rod itself
that rides on that notched throttle plate, governor compensating
spring on the lower end of the throttle rod.
Those are what I would look at first.

Checked all that was mentioned. The plate is worn, but more so at the bottom third and it holds there. The ball bearing in the lever is worn flat. I'm not seeing the friction plate.. the rod goes down and there is a spring on the bottom, maybe 2"long. Is the friction plate above the spring? For now i just made a little clip to put around the top screw and I just lift the throttle rod over it to keep in place. THanks for the quick replies

8N does not have a friction plate. You need to replace the ball in the throttle lever. And probably the quadrant too.

This round, flat spot under where the battery box would be is
where the bellcrank (friction disk) goes on a Jubilee/hundred
series tractor. The "N's" did not have one.

Any chance anyone could guide me to where to find the ball from?

Bruce(VA) has a nice article on how to repair (replace) that ball. I cannot find it after searching the archives. (I use google all the time,
but I cannot use the search engine on this site). Anyway, Bruce will be along and give you the details.

My throttle started to slip the same way. An "N" is too hard to control when you have to hang on to the throttle with one hand, especially when using an FEL.

I got the parts and repaired mine right. I got a new quadrant plate, a new throttle rod, and the two springs. It's not much of a job. You do have to remove the air cleaner to get to it. The parts were cheap enough, that's why I replaced everything. It works great now. In the pics you see the old quadrant and the new one and the worn ball in the throttle rod.

If you just want to replace the ball in the throttle rod, it is a standard 3/8" ball bearing. This is standard sling shot ammo you'll find in sporting goods stores. I have the new ball but haven't tried replacing it in the old throttle rod yet.

I used an impact screw driver to break loose the three screws in the quadrant plate. It worked fine.

If you order new parts be aware that they will come in bare metal so make sure you have some paint when you get them. As you can see the only paint I had was a gold color.
