Good Service

Just replaced a set of NAPA Echlin points that gave me 8 years of service and a 6 volt battery that gave me 9 years. The old battery cost me around $35. The replacement cost me $95. That's some serious inflation. Wish my boss raised my wages by that much ;-)

Hey Colin,
I hear ya on battery costs. A few years ago I bought an old Club Car 36-V golf cart ($125) just to to frog around with. Within 6 months I dropped $835 on 6 Trojan 105 batteries to power it.

Well I would say something about this but if i did well I might not be able to post any more . But when the EPA shuts down lead mines well batteries need lead to be made so if no lead well you see where I am coming form

Old,

In the same way the descendants of the same people Jefferson, Jackson, Eisenhour, JFK tried to warn us about also recently HAD the EPA declare beautiful Carbon dioxide a "toxic waste". Everything done through what Jefferson called, "the pretense of care."

This will probably be a thread stopper, but heck, if people don't act on anything important but their tractors, all that's left to do in the end is react. :)

90% of lead in the US comes from recycled vehicles batteries. I found this out when I looked up why there is such a shortage of .22 ammo. the same company that recycles those batteries also had the last operating lead mine in the US. that has been or is in the process of being shut down by the company.

overnment shut down the Excide battery recycling plant in Frisco, TX

I had to replace a 6 volt battery recently. I was prepared for a high price, but found that Orschelns sells them for $59. Now if I could just find some .22 shorts for my little Winchester.

Ouch! Got your money out of them. I haven't had to buy a 6v battery for awhile but now I am prepared for the sticker shock.

I picked up this 6V battery Friday at our local Farm and Fleet for $49.99 plus $3.50 tax. Not a top of the line but I thought it was a pretty reasonable price. I was expecting to pay more.

apparently excide has plants in CA, TX, PA and some other states which have been shut down because or will be shut down because of the plants contamination of ground, water and air.

At one time lead mines where a big part of the economy of Missouri so much so that there is even a town not far from me called Lead Mine MO. But now the mines are still there but not many if any are still open

I have always wondered why people here in Missouri did not have problem from lad in the water since Missouri was one of the biggest area to have lead mines

Hi Guys and a few Gals,

The lesser availability of 6 V batteries is one of my main reasons to go with the 12 V system conversion. I buy the new 12 V battery for the car and truck as they get old, and then take the somewhat used 12V car or truck battery and install it in my 8N(s)or other small tractor. This keeps my main vehicles in top reliability for a lesser cost. Just yesterday I pulled the dead 12V batt from my often used 8N and its date sticker showed 11 years of use. Another source of fairly new but used batts is the junk yard (oops... parts recycling business). I'll be visiting them this coming week as I need batts for a few more small tractors.

I did get to Le Seuer on Friday and bought a few goodies. But the rain and wind sure did not make it a comfortable day. The Carharts were still at home staying warm and dry (but I wasn't!!).

Have a great week!

Do not know about 22 shorts but there is a place up here that has 22LR and has had for months. Now 22 mag well I have not been able to find that

One of my navy buddies has or had a hybrid car and he had to replace the batteries in it. He told m i cost him $2500 for he batteries and he still had to have the computer reprogrammed for it to work as it should for another $500. And they say they save people $$ I think I'll stick with my Toyota that gets 40 plus MPG

Colin, I'm not too sure you can even buy lead anchors for lag bolts in California.... That is in keeping with their theory: IF IT WORKS WELL, MAKE IT UNAVAILABLE/ILLEGAL...

I do not know what kind of mileage a gas golf cart would get but they say the way to look at it is you'are purchasing 7 years worth of energy all at once (+/- a year). Our gas fluctuates between $4.59 to $4.99 per gallon so in the summertime when the grand kids are here I am probably doing OK. I know you can buy cheaper batteries but the Trojan 105's are supposed to last considerably longer for this application...time will tell. I also bought a couple new Blue Top Optima trolling motor batteries for the Bass Buggy pontoon boat.
Long story short - I hate to hand over $25 to fill a 5 gallon gas can.

Here where I live gas is right at $2.259 per gal so a whole lot cheaper here then where your at

OLD,
Right!
Excellent point about ground water.

Along the same lines the admin has stopped any competition to GE by not allowing any coal-fired power plants.
Like David Rockefeller said, "competion is a sin." Right, the religion of corporatism. . . meanwhile, before any honest enviro movement was totally hyjacked by the globalists, coal-fired plants had so many restrictions put on them with buffers on the stacks etc., that they pretty much put out mostly CO2. Find external_link on YouTube saying, "You can start up a coal fired power plant but it will bankrupt you with Greenhouse gas taxes."
What he was really saying is "[b:810cfcbcfe]WE[/b:810cfcbcfe] will bankrupt you if you dare to compete."

Again, so much of their economy crippling chicanery hinges on making the very life of Green, of all plant life, C02 a threat to our survival when global Warming/climate Change is literally a war on plant life. Nobody seems to notice that the word DIOXIDE went strangely missing from "carbon tax". The word carbon facilitates a wider sweeping stranglehold on everything that moves and strengthens the illusion that the Global warming initiative has something to do with ACTUAL pollution.

But again, like Thomas Jefferson said,
"America could still be a happy prosperous place, if the people could stop the government from spending their money under the pretense that they care."

. . . or stop them from crippling or over-taxing or driving out all industry but theirs.

Find the Canadian Maurice Strong, a key global warming point man, in one of the "Summits" saying "isn't it then our responsibility to destroy the industrial west."

Yep people trying to save us from our self or so they claim. Still remember years ago when the gov jumped in and made ATT break up and let other phone companies to do them being the only one

I can beat you. My quality farm and fleet points are going on 13 years. As long as a set of points last. I don't understand why people want to spend $150 to convert to electronic systems.

Shoot I cannot tell you when the last time was that I change the points in any or my tractors but I'll bet it is 10 plus years in most of not longer.

Why does it matter to you how some other guy spends his dough?
A friend of mine just Had to show me his new Musky lure today.
He got it in the mail yesterday.
It's supposed to be the greatest lure ever.
It cost him $35. He has dozens of musky lures and thousands of $ in tackle and gear, plus a boat, trailer, outboard, and nice pickup that he only uses to pull the boat.
And he doesn't even eat the fish he catches.
It is not what I would spend my money on.
But I think it's fine if he does and I was glad he stopped by to brag about his new lure.
How many times did you have to clean, adjust and lube those points in 13 years?
Whatever your answer, some folks think that's too many and want EI.

I heard all of the lead from our junk batterys goes to China where it's made into bullets, sold to ragheads to shoot back at our Soldiers!

I could care less how people spend there money. Why spend $100 for a part when a $15 part will make the 9n run?

I have not touched the distributor in 13 years. Didn't lube them either when I put them in.

Hey old, have you ever seen the photo of a couple guys dropping a Ford Tractor down head first into a Missouri Mine. Pretty Cool.

Would have been fun to have made it down to Le Seuer. Someday, Paul, we'll have to go together. Cleared up here by dinner time and I spent the afternoon building fence.

Hey Beaver just replaced my Dad's six 6 volt golf cart batteries. They were the Trojan 105's that were dated 1995. So he got 20 years out of them. They swelled up so bad I couldn't remove them.

Any how after pricing some new Trojans out I decided to go with Deka brand from Eastern Penn. The Trojans were $75 more each then the Deka that I bought for $102/ea. Needing 6 batteries, it was a no brainer.
At 80 yrs old Dad said he doubts he needs another 20 hrs out of the new set.

1 How I spend my money is not any of your business as long as I'm not on assistance and pay my bills so I'm not in court.

2 If you are spending 150 bucks to convert to 12 volt you are buying a kit.

3 Some of us run our tractors a lot of hours a year. I run over 100 hours just on the N. Most likely pushing close to 200 if I actually tracked it.

4 As far as IE is concerned for anyone with knee problems it's a no brainier. Why would you want to keep it stock?

Rick
