alternator

Just finished stripping the rust and grease off my 2n. Hoping to prime and paint this weekend. My 2n was 12v when I bought it and decided to leave it that way. The question is. Have any of you folks paintef ur alternator just to kind of camouflage it more like a genny? A point of nconsequence , just kind of curious. By the way, my tin work is all done and the paint turned out fantastic. I guess after 5 of these I am getting the hang of it.

NO reason you can't if you want. Alternators on most machines that had them from the factory typically were not masked off and got painted with everything else.

I've had a few where the previous owners painted them.
Not worth my time to strip it off, so I just clean and fix the paint on them.
One 2N had a nice black alt on it that was too well done for
a home job. Must have bought it that way.

Yea, they look ugly-like an afterthought sticking out the side..Looked for a 12 volt
generator some time back but lost the rabbit in the briar patch...

You bring up this ugly business everytime the idea of an alternator comes up.
I do not know why.

It has to do with <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/aesthetic"target="_blank">aesthetics</a> which is a part of <a href="http://www.thefreedictionary.com/philosophy" target="_blank">philosophy.</a>
What may be ugly to you may be the opposite to someone else because they see something you don't.
Some people think painting 9/2Ns red and gray makes them ugly.
Some people don't.
Some people think Ford Blue is ugly.
Some people like the color.
Some people think Angelina Jolie is beautiful.
Some people find her ugly.
Harping about the <a href="http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/beauty"target="_blank">beauty</a> or lack thereof of an alternator on an N is meaningless, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativism"target="_blank">relative</a> and kind of useless.
You may think you are the final <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arbiter"target="_blank">arbiter</a> on the matter but there are many here who do not agree with you.

Sure, the one on my 2n is black.

I can't see if this one has an alternator but I bet it does .
