8N engine/ welder combo ?

I am going to pick this up 8N Engine/ Hobart welder. Anyone know anything about this setup? Not sure what to do with it, other than restore it and sit it next to our 8N's

Touringsedan,Is it runnin?Nice magneto on it.What is that mounted under the magneto?Where is the furl tank?

I saw that on the local CL ad, I have been looking for a welder/generator, but that one was a tad big, and was missing the fuel tank and I am leery on the 'run when last used'.

I have heard that a lot and found out why they quit using it.

Theoretically though, the N engine unless it has a cracked block or spun bearing shouldn't be too hard to get running.

And the welder portion shouldn't have too many parts to go bad.

If it wasn't so darn big, I'm looking for something to go on a platform with my torch tanks to do work around the house and work on our creek crossings.

My Dad told me that during the '30s, when more modern cars were introduced, old Dodge Bros. cars became virtually worthless and would sell for $10 - $25. Due to their low value, during the WWII scrap metal drives many, many DB's were melted down. Before doing so, however, they would almost always remove the DB starter-generator, which was quite an expensive unit when new, and sell them to farmers. The farmers would mount them on their 3-point hitch and drive them with the PTO. Instant arc-welder for use in the field. I have heard it claimed that they would deliver 100 amps continuously, but I don't know if that is true.

Here's a picture of my portable welder/generator. It is powered by a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine. It works great and pulls easy behind my
truck.
