I replaced my Starter relay and Starter. The battery is full charged. When I push the starter button the starter relay buzzes like its going on and off and nothing else happens. I cleaned my connections also. What else can I do?

6v or 12v?

" Starter relay"

I'm guessing that if you have an 8N, it's a solenoid.

The solenoid is making a noise because of low voltage. That is likely caused by:

1. A weak battery (charge it & check it per tip # 49. Or get it load tested.)*

2. Dirty grounds/connections (remove the cables & clean the connections)

3. Bad cables or incorrect sized cables (replace them - see tip # 41)**

4. Bad ground between the starter & the block. (pull the starter away from the block & clean the mating area - see tip # 36)

* No matter what else you do, the battery must be fully charged. A float charger is helpful; not a trickle charger, but a float charger. (I use Battery Tenders on all my tractors) If you need to jump it, see tip # 43. Your battery loses 33 percent of its power when the temperature dips below freezing, and over 50 percent of its power when the temperature falls below zero. A fully charged battery will not freeze until -76°F; however, a fully discharged battery can start to freeze at 32°F. So……keep the battery fully charged!

** You can't see corrosion under the insulation.

Bruce is correct. I've been through this myself. Just because a connection looks nice and clean doesn't mean it is. Clean your battery post connections and even the other end of your ground cable. Clean all the connections on your starter and solenoid.

Your starter may also be bad. Run a jumper from the ignition side of the battery to the starter stud and see if it spins over. Be 1000% sure it is out of gear when you do that. If it spins over then you have a poor connection if it does not starter maybe bad or a poor starter ground etc

Long shot here, because it usually results in a "nothing happens"
scenario, but if you have the original style 8N solenoid mounted
on the starter, make sure the small terminal on the solenoid with
the wire that comes from the starter button is facing the engine
block, not facing outwards. If it points out it won't work.

harp.........yer description isn't really clear ...but... make certain yer Bendix drive on the long starter shaft is SQUEEKY clean. NO OIL EVER!!! Spray it good with brake cleaner and let dry. Sometimes the flywheel ring gear itts worn 'cuz the engine always stops at the same place and starter drive won't engage the ring gear. Cautiously pull the fanblade a little to move yer flywheel to a less worn spot and yer starter drive may engage better. As a general rule, starter solenoids either work or they don't. As advised, little middle terminal must face the block where it is hard to gitt too. Sandpaper the end of yer starter motor and the hole in the tranny fer better grounding. Them 8-in screws are NOT good grounders. ........HTH, electrical Dell
