2N no Start

After sitting out to the farm all winter and knowing it had a bad starter I replaced with a new one. Also installed new rotor and points, and fixed the exhaust leak by #4 cylinder with high temp epoxy and new gaskets. Have good blue spark on all 4 plugs, check compression - good on all 4 cylinders. Was able to get it running by pulling the tractor but cannot get it going by using the starter. New starter seems to spin the engine over a lot faster than the old starter. Any ideas as to my next steps. Tractor is out to the farm about 3.5 hrs drive so it'll be another week before I get out there. Any help would be appreciated and sorry for the long dissertation.

Sat that long could well have float stuck bad gas or water or any an all of the above.

tcarlson........installed new points, eh? (0.015") Didja remember to "polish" the INVISIBLE corrosion from between the points? I clamp a corner of $1-bill between the points and pull. Iff'n yer really cheap, tear a strip from HEAVY brown paper grocery sack and use that. Just as a reminder, 2N compression specs: 90psi min dry, most good runnin' 2N engines test about 110psi; brand NEW engines test about 125psi. As fer havin' to pull start yer tractor, unless yer 6-volt battery has good charge, it ain't gonna have enuff to turn the new starter and have enuff left over fer yer sparkies to sparkle. Most batterys loose charge over the winter. And remember, the 0-gauge cable to the starter motor often gitts corrosion underneath the insulation that is enuff to slow yer starter motor and provide enuff volts to sparkle yer sparkies. BEWARE: most autoparts store only sell 4-gauge battery cable which doesn't have enuff amps to turn yer new starter motor. .......yer self-appointed sparkie-meister Dell

remembered to use 1$ bill - pulled thru points 3 times. cleaned all electrical connections - bright & tight. battery was charged - 12v conversion.
new premium gas, check flow, steady stream from bottom of carb. took carb off - turned it upside down a couple of times to make sure float wasn't stuck.
Dumb question but since the new starter spins over a lot faster than the old one, is it possible that it spins over too faster and I have to adjust timing or something?

Sounds like you have 2 of the 3 pillars of internal combustion. Were it me I'd drain the fuel and replace it with new, including pulling the carb drain plug to check for flow.

When you push the starter button is it actually engaging the engine and turning it or could there be no connection to the flywheel some how?

No.

" Have good blue spark on all 4 plugs, check compression - good on all 4 cylinders. "

Does the spark jump 1/4" in the open air? (see tip # 13)

What's "good" compression?

" Was able to get it running by pulling the tractor but cannot get it going by using the starter."

That's says you have poor compression or a weak spark.

See tip # 23; jump it & see what happens.

Gas might be too old. back in the 90's I had a DC Case. It got so it wouldn't start unless I drained the carb and refilled it with fresh gas. I had a funnel with a rubber hose. I would remove the fuel line and force the hose over the threaded fitting and then pour in new gas into the carb. After doing this the tractor would start with the crank on the second pull. After it started I would turn the fuel valve on and it would run.
