My mag post was so far down I wanted to touch base with you on your replies. RG I have a mach shop that will do the job but they had some ?s that I could not answer, they had never seen this setup and asked me to see if anyone had done one as they too were concerned about damage to the housing. So have you had the bushings removed on yours or are you like me ya just know it would be done best by people who do this sort of work every day. Den on your reply here is my thinking, The F/M dist lugs to the cam are a different size and it goes on just one way if you do it wrong you get to buy a new dist. I have removed my mags to have them rebuilt over the years a few times and it seems to fit fine in either slot or I have been lucky if they are diff size. Maybe if the lugs are different then the F/M dist it would be due to a heavier load of the mag drive gears and not just needed to turn a rotor. I will put a mic on them but they look the same size just with a eyeball. I can see the F/M dist lugs are one sm and the other is bigger with a eyeball. Thanks for the help.

I have not replaced the bushings in mine, I did teake it apart and clean real good. My whole machine was a rust bucket when I got it, the mag had been remove and stored inside but that left the drive open to the elements and here in Oregon we get a lot of them. I think a good machinist could figure out how to replace the bushings. The FO-4 has a good picture of the breakdown of the drive showing the bushings.

As far as the tangs go, the end that bolts to the engine is the same as a front mount dist. the end that the magneto bolts to the tangs are different. You could not bolt the magneto to the front of the engine.
Hope this helps

RG, I took mine apart too thought it would be easy to do the bushings but it will take some
thought. I have the exploded view of it, but I would like to find somebody who has done it even
John Smith told me he didnt know. I still think the tangs are different but I sold all my F/Ms.
You said yours set out in the weather I can tell you this both of mine were full of grease where
the matched gears meet. Thanks

WW2N,Maybe these pics will help you out.Yes the magneto drive end is the same on both sides and the mount to the engine is a offset coupling, same as the front mount distributor. If the bushings are worn a good machine shop could mace some new ons for you.The engine side half of the drive comes apart easily with two screws holding it together. The magneto side has the mag coupling just pressed on to the shaft and has to be removed to replace that bushing. The drive is a one to two gear ratio,so the magneto drive end would turn the same as crankshaft speed. While the Fairbanks Morse magneto reduces drive end two to one rotor rotation.WW2N,I hope this helps you out.

WW2N,The bushings would be easy to replace if you could find them.Maybe a person could find two of them,or have them made on a lathe.

Absolutely outstanding-- Thanks and thanks alot, even though when you have these in your hand and it is just a piece of a man made parts ya want all the the info you can get cause nobody makes these, when their gone their gone. I can find the mags but the drives ya got to look. Mine came from a salvage yard and it needs bushings,so even if ya get one it may take some work to get it in working order.
