Got fairly nippy last night, and when I went out to the shop, there were dead flies, and hornets all over the floor.
With nothing else to do....except tend to my ailing wife,....I discovered the fun of studying up on flies.

Here is a tidbit of information you may/may not NEED to know.!!!

As I said......don't really have to much to do....!!!!! Just chores, feed the wife and cat,....AND, generally expand my thought processes.
Not too much there either!!!!

Good info--my past time is swatting bumble bees with an oversized swatter made from a broom
stick with an old car tag nailed to it..scored a couple earlier this evening. Love to hear
that zing when I give them a headache--wish I could kill the last one on earth..They are
very destructive..

Ha, good one Gary! Reminded me of the time in college that I was taking Genetics and we used the anomoly-linked fruit flies in the lab. (the filter won't let me use the word "s*x-linked fruit flies even though it is appropriate for this discussion) I was the only guy and a room full of girls that quarter (summer). Well, after about the 3'd week, I was the only one with any fruit flies left alive! Dang females kept "over using either" on the poor flies. Just a drop or two on the cotton to knock them out while counting/checking the different anomalies from the different anomoly-linked characteristics. So the instructor came to me and asked/begged me to "share" some of my fruit flies with the other 15 or so students...I asked what I was going to get out of it and she replied...an easy "A". It was a hard subject and I took her up on it! She was known for being a hard you know what, too. I lucked out as the fruit fly goddess was definitely looking out for me...lol :D I did have the only "A" in the class when the grades were posted.

Ooooh, that's a tough one.
Maybe those other two were drinkin' and dialin'?
Ya might have to figure that out!
Just in case you need more to do.

Tom,I sometimes do that to in the evenings out in front of my shop, but use a electronic fly swatter from Harbor Freight(cheap) and zaps them good.Durn carpenter bees,I hate em.I made a trap for in front of the house that works fairly well on em to.

I made two of the traps last year and have caught nothing but one wasp..wonder what I did wrong??I usually have the carpenter bees literally coming in late evening, into my shed almost like a busy airport..fewer this year so far

GW, my first class at Clemson was genetics. 1974 summer session. Prof had been a student at Clemson with my Dad in the mid 1930's. He also had taught my older brother. He gave me a project to breed standard fruit flies with an eyeless variety. almost no offspring. In my final report, I told the class the blind ones could not find the normal ones to breed. Can't remember, I think I got a B in the course.

Gary........used to go places where they'd serve you a glass of beer with 2-coasters. One fer soakin' up the sweat, and one fer TOP of glass to keep the flies OUT. Ever try to do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation with a fly??? As B O Plenty used to say on Dick Tracy, "PATOOEEEeee".........Dell (grin)
