Hi all - i'm working on my 9n which hasn't run in two tears - the gas that came out of the tank was like coffee. Im cleaning the lines and carb, but I see lots of rust in the tank. It looks like the tank is welded to the cowling and does not want to come off. Can I clean the tank and rely on the sediment bulb and intake screen to work OK after I try to remove as much rust as I can - or do I need a new tank and how do I get it and the cowling off - Im Ok mechanically - just not familiar with this old trator - really appreciate any help - thanks - tom

Remove the hood. (see tip # 12)

The gas tank is bolted in w/ castelated nuts w/ cotter pins. And leather bumpers.

" Can I clean the tank and rely on the sediment bulb and intake screen to work OK after I try to remove as much rust as I can - or do I need a new tank"

Given the time & expense to line a tank...and the very good chance it won't work as planned, & the fact that a new tank is about $150, I'd just buy a new tank.
