I ha the lift working very slowly and it would leak down in about 1hr after shutting off tractor i checked pil and it needed changing bad so i did that adding about 51/2 gallons of fresh oil for ford 2n tractor now the lift comes up half way very slowly but it does not leak down at all when tractor is off the control lever does feel like it does not have tension on it when you pull on it it moves very easy so wonder what would suggested checks be i thought maybe replacing relief valve and checking control lever was wondering if relief valve can be replaced from sideplate if so does someone have procedure to do this and also procedure to check friction disc and replace on control handle,i rebuilt the engine but the hydraulics are new to me on ths old tractor but she runs good, any information on above would be appreciate

Nothing you have said makes me think relief.

Cork disc on the quadrant is simple mechanical dissasembly with a little care to not break parts. Use penetrant oil and catefull or no heat on aluminum parts. Handle flange is keyed. A lil swagging with 2 hammers 180 apart will help.

On the slow movement, I would see if the control fork is moving the t valve full in and out and not sticking

yardman.........5-1/2 gals of pil (oil) is too much, 'cuz it will leak out yer tranny front oil seal and grease yer clutch ...or... it will splash out yer axle trumpets and grease yer brakes. Bottom line you gott too much tranny oil. Remove the 6-o'clock bolt of yer 6"-dipstick plate and let all the excess oil drain down the outside of yer tranny. Letter drain overnite then puttchur bolt back-in. Simple, eh? Soundguy done told you how to fix yer cork lift arm friction plate. As fer the sloooow lift, with the 6"-dipstick plate off, try lifting sumptin' and lookin' up inside with flashlite fer leaks. Most likely yer hydraulic lift cylinder, but could bee yer paper butt-buckett seat gasket. As fer yer pressure relief valve, yes it can be replaced by a custom modified 11/16 ring wrench with cut-off handle. But since you claim it stays up fer 1-hr with engine off, it is the least of yer worries. ........HTH Dell

taking off the control handle i guess nothing else needs to removed no side plates or anything else just remove handle in the manner you descibed?

the quadrant comes apart if you need to, or just remov ethe 2 bolts to get the handle off the small disc. then take the nut off and small spring. use penetrant. you can try a small puller, but don't get strong with it as it will break the disk. 2 screwdrivers sometiems seems to be the easiest way to leverage it off.

don't loose the moon key, and clean up the shaft and inside diameter and keeyway before reinstall. add some neverseize to it as well.

to look at the control fork, you will want the right side inspection cover off.

You can loosen the four bolts that hold the quadrant to the side of the lift housing and move the whole quadrant mount towards the back of the
tractor on the elongated holes in the quadrant if it hasn't already been done.

Also there is a long pull spring that connects from the middle "Knee" section of the control rods and to the front of the ram cylinder.
If that spring is weak it can't move the control valve when you move the touch control handle.

If it is weak you can remove it and shorten it to give it more strength.
