Recently changed oil and cleaned out canister on my 8N. Reused the gasket under the top bolt and when I tightened bolt a half moon piece of the gasket tore and squeezed out from under the bolt.
I'm guessing my gasket was worn out. I'm seeing replacement gaskets for $5.00 each. I hate to pay 5.00 for a gasket that probably costs .25 to make. Did a forum search and saw suggestions to use a copper washer. Before I get out to hardware store, do you guys have any other suggestions? Will brass substitute for copper and seal? Hate to think I will need a new 5.00 gasket when I change the oil filter. Maybe a flat washer on top of the gasket under the bolt will prevent bolt from tearing the new gasket. All comments apprieciated.
