8N Air Cleaner

This is the aircleaner on my front mount 8N. I've cleaned and replaced filter media. After seeing pics of other air cleaners and page 125 in Parts Catalog, I realize I'm missing the top.

Do you guys think I will compromise the N running as is with oil in the cup?

BigYoung.......since all the air hazzta go thru the oil in bottom of cup, it will trapp enny contaminates. While I wouldn't advise workin' in DUSTY air, you should be goot to goo .......kachoo, Dell

Is that an 8N air cleaner? I didn't think the tops came off like the
9N/2N tops did. Not that it makes much difference I guess.
I have this one that someone braised a weird tube to.
I don't know why, gave up trying to figure it out.
If it would do you any good you can have it.
Just pay the shipping to your place. Email is open.

The 8N air cleaner was set up to draw air from outside the hood. Without the top on there it will be drawing air from under the hood so as the fan blows air and debris under the hood you may need to service it more often.

Glad you posted that Mark. The weird tube on mine is braised
to where the funnel would normally go through the hood.
The side that goes to the carb is stock/not modified.
Maybe they had a home made pre-cleaner on it. Dunno.

like Mark said, being in a wind dead/swirl spot under the hood,
it will fill with chaff pretty quick.
And stupid mice will do stupid things there.
A piece of PVC pipe/elbow jammed in will get it over near the hood screen.

Royce....PO shoulda pointed it forward...RamAir...LOL

If need be you might get away with the 9N/2N style.
The top was removable on those in one way or another.
This one bolts on, but some had a clamp ring around them.

Royse, thanks for the offer to help and the pics. Got some ideas from the suggestions and will try to farmerize a pvc elbow intake thru the hood. Gotta run it some more before I put the hood and doglegs back on!
