Crispy Jubilee gas tank (pics)

Walked by the gas tank off the crispy Jube and noticed that
there are four holes in the top of it. Any guesses as to how?
They are evenly spaced, and would be about where the hood
would set, but I didn't find anything in the hood that would have
caused them, like screws, rivets etc.
There doesn't appear to be any rub marks, but the holes are
not perfectly round like I would expect from a drill.
Of course they have rusted some which opened them up enough
that I noticed them today.
May have been the cause of the fire. Still don't know for sure.
Obviously it will get a new tank, just curiosity.

My very first idea, about those holes, was/is, that someone drilled those holes for possible venting outlets!!!????
Spaced somewhat to where a spot weld might have been to hold the tank baffle??????....AND the fuel tank pour cap has similar holes drilled in it ....all spaced in the same type config./spacing!!!????
Panning down to pic.# 5, looks to me like the top of a baffle edge in that hole!!!

Just thinkin' outloud!!!

Looks like they were punched with a nail, maybe because the vent had plugged up and he was in a hurry and he had a hammer and a nail.

Possibly a replacement tank from either a different Jub with some issues, or some other ford unit that used the same tank with a different mounting?

Are there holes in the tin....channel where the hood rests?
I've seen some interesting rubber inventions attached to that
channel to stop the hood from vibrating.
drilled or screwed too deep.......

ps, some split pieces of rubber gas/vacuum hose slipped over the edges of the channel work fine for that....with no holes..

If you look at the close up photos you can see where something larger and round rested on the tank at one time, whether it was a washer or a rubber pad there is no way to tell, but its definately a tad different color in a perfect circle around the holes, maybe 1" diameter.
