Did i order the right parts

Few weeks ago I called New Holland to order the outter axel seals for the 48 8n. What I got was part # 8n4223A..I went to John Smiths website to go over the details on how this job is done. Well I first noticed that the seals that I got did not coinside with what the site says. Appears I got the inner axel seals used on the later 8n's? So I called New Holland and ordered the retainer assembly A8NN4248A and 8N4284 gasket and the 8N4225 gasket...Of which I had to order 5 of each at $6/each. Which is fine I can use them on a different tractor some other day. I would like to make sure I have the correct parts this time before starting. Anything else I shall need besides blue permatex?

OT - Sorta - The new CNH packaging is driving me nuts. I had to order 2 rear seals, because they come in quantity of 1 instead of a set, AND they kept the set price for an individual. And when I ordered the O-Ring for the SOS pump it came in a quantity of 5... makes me wonder if they are trying to get rid of some of the parts and discontinue them.
Either that or they have an idiot in their parts management...

Now that I look at the parts on new Holland it appears It the assembly comes with the gaskets. I dunno..guess I'll find out in a few days. The seals I already got we're 2 separate sealed packages. I guess I needed the later seals eventually

Did you mean 8N4233A instead of 8N4223A?

There are actually three seals available. One is the inner seal on mid to late 8N's and Jubilee's, which you don't have on your '48. The diameters on the inner seal are different enough that they won't fit in place of the outers. Then there are two outer seals. The difference is in the outside dimension, which is slightly larger for the late 8N's. The late seal will press into the early pressed steel seal retainer plate (which I found out by mistake), though real tight. The outer seal with the pressed steel retaining plate used on the early 8N's can be ordered as an assembly, but now the seal can also be ordered without the plate. The 8N4224 gasket really is not needed if you use silicone, but can't hurt. The 8N4284 is okay to have as it helps stop leakage past the axle splines.

Otherwise I think you're good to go.
