47 early 8n single rear seal

how doi get the oil seal off? 2 bots thin metal. want to change seal i think this has to come off afraid to pry unless that is the way you get it out. 2 bolts are into bendix plate.
appreciate the help im afraid to ruin good part due to ignorance.

Can you take a picture. I have no idea what the "bendix plate" is.

Here is a parts diagram for you. In addition to the seal you need to replace the the cork gasket which is #17. I have no clue as to what a bendix plate is.

I am doing my 48 8n now,mine has 4 other bolts that go through to the trumpet that needed to to be removed before seal came off,maybe yours is different? Post a picture if possible

HCOOKE I believe the "bendix" plate he is referring to is the one the brake shoes are centered on just before the seal,it has "bendix" stamped in the metal

Pixer it's also not much more work to go ahead and remove the top and bottom bolts (trumpet side)and remove bearing race and brake backing plate,pack the bearing with grease and put a small amount of sealer between everything that could leak, have you looked at John Smiths site?

thanks for all info, turns out i have wrong seals i need seals with sheet metal seal cover, bolts that go through the trumpet have to be removed, from now on i will inclued pictures as i am not familiar with all proper part names. going to wait for new seals that should explain it all to me.
