DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET TO A VIDEO SHOWING HOW TO CHANGE SEALS ON REAR AXELS OF AN 1947 EARLY 8N WITH SINGLE SEALS , IM CHANGING BREAK SHOES AND NOT SURE OF SEAL INSTALLATION.
APPRECIATE ANY HELP.

Im doing seals next weekend on a 48..i'll be watching for any advise. I think its pretty straight forward isn't it? I haven't looked at the book yet.

I seem to remember a link posted on the forum about a year ago. Probably from John Smith's site. Pretty informative but no walk in the park. HTH Mike

I don't know of a video but there's probably one out there. I'm in the middle of mine now,it's just as Lisa K thinks pretty straight forward, I took pictures with my iPad when disassembling, that always helps me(and manuals). Seems most of my work so far is cleaning! What a mess!

I think the one I viewed was removing seals from a 2N to replace with sure seals. I think it involved heating the old seal with a torch and pounding it off to convert to the newer type sure seal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought before the 8N the rear axles only had 1 seal as opposed to the 2 seal set up on the 8N which included the outer seal. This was to prevent leakage into the brakes maybe? I dunno maybe I'm just gettin old and confused.Either case your 48 should be an 8N so you wouldn't need to do the removal technique I was describing. It ought to be a bit easier on that one. MIKE

The 2N originally only had the outer seal, and then an inner sure seal was added so that a 9N/2N owner would not have to cut off the collar to get to the outer seal. Originally the outer bearing was lubed with the hyd fluid through the axle trumpet.

There was a discussion about this a few days ago. The sure seal is not the best answer. Just a quick fix for someone who doesn't want to fix the outer seal. At least that is what I understood from some of the guys on here who seem to know a thing or two.. I have yet to fix this on my 2N.
