21" motorcycle tire as a liner for 19" front tires

My recent question as to what could be done to keep thorns out of the front 19" tires/tubes led the tractor owner Mark to install used 21" motorcycle street tires inside the 19" tractor tires as liners.
He first razer knifed a slice about 1 1/2" from the bead and used the slice to insert his jig saw and cut off 1 1/2" or so of the side walls and chamfered the edges of the cut with a die grinder to hopefully keep the sharpish edge from hurting the tube.
He did not cut the tire in the outer circumference/tread area so basically the 21" tire went in whole with exception of the sidewall that was removed.
The 21" tires went into the 19" tires with just a little effort with another friend standing on the 21" tire to get it to go in the 19" and he said that they fit up tight against the inside of the 19" tire.
He used two different size 21" tires and said that the wider 21" tire seemed to fit a little better but the motorcycle shop that he got them from for free didn't have two of the exact same size so he used what he could get.
He did say that he thought he might have been able to cut less than 1 1/2" inches off of the side wall, giving more thorn protection to the side walls of the 19" tire, but that was an afterthought.
He also installed new tubes at the time because the 3 month old tubes had 22 thorn holes in one tube and 18 in the other.
So, other than the new 16 dollar each Co-Op tubes, this was a free repair.
I got there just after my buds had finished this red neck repair but this was the gist of the operation.
We will see how this works.

You have my attention, do you have pictures of this outfit I would pay to see it. We have Locust
trees with large thorns. What kind of thorns are you having problems with.Like I said pictures
would be a big help.

Sounds like a great idea but I wonder.

Won't the tube have a hard time stretching out wrinkle free now that much of tube space is now taken up by the inserted motorcycle tire?
