Hello all, first post here. I've been rebuilding a 1948 8n and the info I have
found on this site is priceless! This is my first 8n so I am learning a lot.
I have a question about which oil pump is better to rebuild. I have the 3/4
and 9/16 width pumps and the rebuild kits for both. Is there any advantage to
the wider gears or does it matter? The engine had the 9/16 width gear
originally. The sump on it was worn pretty deep on the machined surface side
so I picked up another from a friend and it was the 3/4 that was not wore at
all. Before I take it to machine shop to put bushing in was wondering which
housing I should have the new bushing put in. Any info would be appreciated!

The 3/4 inch gears dekiver more flow. But - the oil pump is also the front main bearing cap and you cannot use one from another engine without having the mains align honed.

im just guessing , but if your taking to a machine shop would it be cost effective to have both done because of the set up cost ?
 
I only have the one engine. Will give main back to friend to keep with engine it came out of. Did not even think of main bearing issue. This is my first rebuild so if I do another I may have engine at friends that is complete! Will rebuild it then!
