Your pictures. Looks like you removed a core plug. Generic part - replace with one teh same size.

Hole Feels Like it's Threaded?
If a Sealer is recommended before installation, what is recommended?

Looks like you have a hole in the center of a "Welch Plug".

You need to pop it out and replace it with a new one, 1-3/16", IIRC.

They are a generic part and any "real" auto parts store should be able to help you at.

Clean the counterbore well, and install it with a wiping of Loctite (or for older tech, Permatex), and pound it flat, to expand it in place.
