Its broken now. Was just starting to see the splines at the back of the pump. Guess I get to pull a pump off a parts tractor. The shaft is still stuck.

Needed a new PTO seal and I wanted to drop the pump and clean the sludge out. The oil was blacker than black. This tractor was used to strictly run a grain elevator. The whole inside is black. When I pulled the plug to drain there was an inch of sludge on the plug. I'm wondering if the oil has never been changed. Its getting a new naa piston and oring. The lift was never used. They took the arms off. Cam pin is brand new. Light rust in the cylinder. We are selling this one so I wanted to make sure everything was sound on it.

So now what. Split the rear end and tranny? The shaft has to be stuck in the coupler or whatever its name is forward of the pump. Just from looking at some tractors we have partially apart.

The shaft usually hangs in the pump, as evidenced by your bottom breakout.

If the pump is a gonner, and no other reason to split exists,I'd just rip its guts out. The shaft and pump are lost causes.

Shaft due to twist, and pump base broke out.

Might salvage bearing carrier from shaft, and side covers, etc, others non involved parts..

N's collect dirt its the nature of the beast... When you get your belly full of N's and move up to the 100 series you will not find sumps full of dirt nor lift piston bores scratched all to ell from the dirt...

I would drive the shaft back in and split... You know the drill its not that bad a job...

Here's what I've found. I pulled all the bolts from the pump and pulled on the shaft pulling the pump back. Its stuck in the pump not forward of it. Now I'm going to cut the PTO shaft off inside. It sucks but I'll take it as a learning experience.

That's too bad.
But, you've got spares.
I wouldn't even bother cutting the shaft or pulling the pump out.
Split it, save the trumpets and axles, differential, pinion gear and top cover.
Scrap the rest.

I have never had to cut a PTO shaft I have had one that was twisted on the PTO support end and the PTO shiftier would not move but it came out...

Good luck

This is a bit ridiculous. Got the shaft cut and now trying to get what's left of the pump to drop out. But the front of the PTO shaft is in the way. So partially disassembling the pump in the tractor. It will be Interesting to see why its stuck in the pump. Suppose the po did something to it.
