WM gets a lot of bad publicity and most of it justified. (?) but sometimes WM can be a pleasant experience. the local WM has two guys (among others) who work in the TV/all things digital dept. one guy is a 25/30 something the other probably a high school kid. both know where everything is in their dept., are pleasant to talk to and very helpful. the younger kid works Sunday's and I time my visits to WM when he is hopefully on duty.

shoot me now or shoot me later.

There is good and not so good in almost every organization. If you like it go there, if you don't go somewhere else. I prefer to hear the good vibes and could care less about the others.

Regardless of where you shop, a good customer experience is always leaves a guy with a smile on his face.

Nothing against WM here. We do most of our shopping for staples at Sam's Club.
There is no help to be given there and none expected.
As for positive shopping experience, we usually go about dinner time and start with a huge slice of pizza for $2.
Shop happy, leave happy.

I won't say anything or this thread will be deleted. So lets wave bye bye to the West and give China a rousing welcome. :D

I've had very little bad experiences at WM. Recently purchased a back up camera for truck from WM on line. Better price, for same item, than ebay and amazon. Fast free shipping too. Couldn't find anything like it locally.

People are people they are just in a bad place, retail is one of the worst and hardest jobs in the world along with waitress, nurse, & teacher but some teachers bring on their own problems like bill o'reilly but most are dedicated. People in wm are some real good people in a bad situation-- You will never hear this "Boy I cant wait to get out of school and land my dream job at WM.

After Sam Walton died it was bye bye Miss American Pie. Thats when WM started the out sourcing and America took a nose dive, remember the banners in wm that Sam had created so many jobs here and there. Colin hit the nail on the head with his reply.

Our entire county is too under-populated to have any big box stores. Pretty much everything is locally owned. I consider that a plus, and my personal opinion is that it gives me a better "customer experience." :)

Most relationships are economic ones. I know that the reason the wife of the filling station owner buys my chickens is because I get all of my fuel for farm and auto use from her husband's business. And there are other examples. It works out well for everyone. And keeps us a more tight-knit community. We all have connections to each other and we know that we can benefit each other.

This is even more OT than the rest, but here goes. Sam Walton was an outdoors man,who loved hunting and fishing. He often vacationed at South Padre Island, where my business was located. He caught a Porcupine fish, dropped it off at a Taxidermist in nearby Port Isabel Tx,then died. It sat in the office,as none of his relatives wanted it. After being given to a friend of mine,a bank CEO,I was given it. The plaque states that Sam Walton caught it.

I agree. but the thing is about a 100 or so people would not have jobs if they had to depend on mom and pop businesses to hire them. in populated area "box" stores employ oodles of people.

Colin you are very lucky and I hope you can stay right where you are. I have always said the country changed when one man could do the job it took 4 or 5 to do because humans were taken out of the equation. One example I remember when it came haying time and farmers gather at each others place. One cut the hay then somebody with a rake raked it, while it dried they would go to another farm and start the same process. One farmer had a baler he would go from farm to farm and bale. It set a sys up now that was good for all. As the bales came off the baler 2 men would pick up the bales and stack them on a skid that was pulled by another farmer on his tractor, hay was then taken to a elevator and the elevator would take it to the hay loft and 2 farmers would stack it. The wife of the farmer whos hay was being put up along with one of the other wives would cook a huge noon meal roast beef, pork or maybe chicken with all the trimmings mostly home grown. Then they would finish haying and in a day or two go to the next farmers place. Corn picking an seed sorting also done as a group. I am sure not everything was perfect but it did seem to help people really know their neighbor. Then when it got to the point a farmer could do it all on his own I think something got lost an forgotten. When you say thank you to the guy you sold your chickens to he will say no thank you for your business----------- he means it. If you get a thank-you in the retail business today, 1st you may have a dedicated employee who knows where their pay check comes from. You may just get a thank you because they are told to say it. Well off my soap box now.

If, you have earned your dollars, spend them how you see fit;

Pay the man when you ask his service; If you do not like the service, spend your dollars elsewhere. The point will be made when your face has disappeared.

That is a good story. Years ago I took a Real estate course with a girl who said her Father flew Sam Walton and his Brother to the place where he has going to apply for financing for his first store. Only Sam Walton went to the interview. The reason his Brother didn't go is because between the two of them they only had one pair of good shoes.
He was a good man. Shame what has happened to Wal Mart since he died.

That would be very nice indeed, but at our local WM, there is no one in the electronics department. Sporting goods department is the same way.
