Got oil pump rebuilt, and tractor all back together. got carb rebuilt by a friend, plugs have some spark, but it wont hit a lick. Not even with starting fluid. and all valves are working. My question is at the resistor its realy has alot of fire and on the other end of resister just barely light test light. Will it burn my coil out if I bypast the resistor just to see if that helps start it????or am I better off just pulling it to see if something might happen??

ricky........you complain......",plugs have some spark, but it wont hit a lick. Not even with starting fluid".....and....."My question is at the resistor its realy has alot of fire and on the other end of resister just barely light test light".......CONGRATULATIONS you have just discovered "Kirchhoff's Law" ...ie... the sum of all volts equals the applied volts. You have 6-volts applied to the top of the "infamous" ballast resistor and LOOSE 3-volts thru the resistor and summ-b*tch you have 3-volts across the coil that will barely lite yer 6-volt lite. Isn't electricity wonderful?

As to whether to bypass the ballast resistor for hotter sparkies to try and gittchur engine to start? Yeah, you can do that fer about 10-mins max.

Don't fergitt, even the most careful engine rebuilder can install his timing 180* outta phase. And all the startin' fluid int the world won't help 'nuttin' gittin' started. .......HTH, Dell
