oil pump prime

Got an 8N running for a customer the other day. It had been setting for some time. After I got it going it had no oil pressure. I was prepared to squirt oil into the relief valve as generally reccomended by this forum. I was concerned about getting some oil to the bearings quickly so I injected about a pint of motor oil into the tee fitting where the oil pressure gauge hooks up. I started the engine before proceeding and had instant oil pressure. I used one of those suction guns that is made with a grease gun barrel/plunger to inject the oil. Worked fine for me and was easier than getting at the relief valve. Just another option to keep in our bag of tricks.

Counterclockwise,Yes that is where I prime them at.One that has been setting a long time,or a fresh rebuild.I use a (A/C flush gun) pressure feed tank it holds about a quart if oil,and I inject it into the t fitting. It pressurizes the oil galleys and lubes the crank bearings, removes air, fills oil filter canister. It also primes the oil pump.
