i bought an 8n a few months ago , its my 3rd one . so a few weeks ago i bought the 4th 8n just to see if i can make a buck on it . if i learned anything about used tractors on this one , its never buy a tractor from someone with a welder !

Never buy a tractor from a guy with a welder??? Many guys with welder can do things you will NEVER learn to do an many can weld up things that will hold till a nuke hit it. Sorry I am a retired welder and you come off very badly and sad that you feel this way

old can probably weld anything except a broken heart or the hole in a donut. old I had no idea you were a welder either I thought you were a black shoe striker ET and a jack of all trades.

Auggy my uncle who retired 20 plus years back was a master welder for over 45 yrs who welded frames and buckets for earth moving equipment that were larger than your home.
He often said that no machine could come close to the quality of work he learned to do cause he learned to listen to the metal.

Experienced welding has become lost art.

(quoted from post at 06:09:08 03/06/15) don't think he was attacking welders. I think his tractor must have numerous repairs to it.

No one said he was...just stating that not true in all cases.

Actually I have a welder , but would you really weld the sheet metal together instead of finding a bolt that fits? That's not repair work

I welded the lift arm on my 9n 10 years ago,and you can't tell which one was welded. It was cracked almost in two. I've lifted 5' discs, bushogs, backblades, etc with no problems. I'm not the best welder, but took a course many years ago and done a bit of welding through the years. As has been said, having a welder doesn't automatically mean you know how to use it.

Depends if your a skilled welder or not.

If I brought my BMW to someone to fit in a body panel and I saw bolts sticking out of my rear quarter panel I'd be pretty ------.

Same as if I brought my 8N hood to someone to cut out the 10"x10" rust spot and patch in a panel and saw a circle of rivets sticking out.

As in numerous ill advised and poorly executed repairs ;-)

TOH

I have seen some pretty welds holding front steering arms and tie rod ends together . It was pretty until it was time to replace a $10 bushing or tie rod end .
