lock nuts for 8n piston rods

Is it necessary to order rod nuts from a tractor supplier or can you find them locally in hardware stores? Thanks everyone!
 
Mineola......are you askin' about them thin sheetmetal lock nuts??? I can gitt'em at NAPA ...or... corner hardware store. .......Dell
 
Minney.......generally, you RE-USE the rod nuts. Torque to specs and safety wire or thin (pal) nut them. Simple, eh? ......the amazed Dell

You will want hardened rod nuts and not the soft grade 2 - 5 that are in the common bins . Most rod nuts I have seen are longer than standard nuts and catch more threads .

You should be able to get better rod nuts at your local auto parts store . If my memory is correct , they are 5/16 fine thread like a 302 Ford . Blue thread locker will keep them tight .
