youtube pull start tractor pto shaft

That was posted recently and discussed at length on Tractor Talk.
There were two schools of thought.
He is inventive and clever or he is an idiot.
Inventive and clever won by a wide margin.

He could have done the video in 1/2 the time if he just eliminated the useless palaver. A lot of guys doing these "How To" videos do the same thing.

I thought it was a smart move and said so. Also said it in the comments section on YouTube.
And I agree with reddogge - it's too bad he had to qualify and apologize for his actions so much.
For too many people if there isn't an app for that they are stuck or lost.

One thing to remember if you do this is to have the tractor operator ready to kill the motor if the pull strap (or rope) snags on the PTO output. If it snags, the rotating PTO will wind in the car until the operator kills the engine or disconnects the PTO.

This system is similar to the emergency starting procedure for large propeller-driven airplanes of the 1930's and -40's. They wound a rope aroung the dome of the propeller and pulled it with a truck or tug. The effect was the same, including winding in the tow rig!

Jock,
Depending on which 30s/40s airplane engine you're talking about they were making 1000 PLUS horsepower.
Examples: The engine in a B17 was producing around 1200 HP and a Helldiver engine about 1700 hp. At idle maybe 1/6 of those numbers.
Compare that to a 30 hp tractor, also at idle. You are looking at maybe 5 or 6 hp.
It would kill the tractor engine long before it would roll the car.
