Starter brush install

Anyone have a better way to install new brushes on
a starter than hold one at a time down with a
screwdriver and painstakenly slide over armature.
Just wondering?

Bob........I use the curlie-que spring to hold the side of the brush up outta the way when I install the armature. After installation, I push down on the top of the brush and the curlie-que spring slips right on top of the brush. Simple, eh? .......HTH, Dell

I have always been able to pull the brushes back and slide the spring to the side to hold them up. Slide the end plate up until the brushes are partially over the armature then carefully one at a time push the brushes down to the armature and slide the springs back over the top to put down pressure back on the brushes. Then push the end plate back up to close up the starter. May be a little hard to explain but it has always worked for me.

Oh man!

I have always wired the brush back with wire, assemble armature, then pull the wires out.

Learn something everyday,

H Cook this picture is confusing me it has been a few yrs. since I replaced the brushes in my 8n starter but as I remember there were 4 brushes and I thought they were in the housing. I bought a miny butane torch from HF. to solder the two large wires in place the other two screwed in. There must be different models.
