Non runnin 8n and implements

I found an pretty fair looking 8n, along with nice massey ferguson 5 foot rotary cutter and a six ft back blade. The tractor will not run and I'm not sure what is wrong with it but the motor isn't stuck. It's been sitting in a barn for about 6 yrs. I would post some pictures but I am not sure how to do it. Without seeing pictures how much do you think a fair price for it would be?

Terry, too many variables here. One no idea of compression. Could just need the carb and points cleaned. Then again it could need a total engine rebuild. Because it isn't running no idea of the condition of the clutch, hydraulics or gears.

Then location matters. Some areas the tractor itself isn't worth any more than scrap value. Other areas it's worth more. Depends on demand.

As far as the implements go, in my area the blade about 150, the cutter depends on weather it's a true brush cutter or a rough cut mower. Could be worth 500 or so and may only be worth 75.

So first state the basic area. Like me west MN. Then pictures help!

here in Ohio, I bought the same sort of thing but 2N and it was rough and all the implements were rough too, dragged onto a trailer and set by the side of the road with a sign for $2200.

I brought it home for $500.

find out what scrap is selling for in your area and buy it for that or less. a year ago I loaded 1 on a semi that had a loader attached, 5 foot bush hog on the back, took the tires and rims off and got 600.00 at the scrap yard. That was way more than it was worth

I just talked to the seller again and he said in fact the motor is stuck. He is selling it for his grandfather who last used it in 2010. His grandfather had a stroke and it was parked in the barn since that time. It was driven in there by his uncle when his grandfather had the stroke so it has been sitting the last 5-6 years. Could it be that the motor is stuck from just sitting that long?

I live in southern Illinois and they sell pretty well here if they are running.

The Massey bush hog (rotary cutter) is in very good shape. The back blade I am really not concerned about but it's probably worth 100-150 dollars.

Since I learned that the tractor motor is stuck I am a lot more apprehensive about it. There is no way of knowing what else could be wrong with it.

He is asking 1200.00 for it. I am in no way giving that much but just wanted to see what others opinions are on it.

If it has locked up due to sitting that is mostly an easy fix. $1200 may not be all that bad a price wit hall if the other stuff. The blade and brush hog are probably worth $500-700. Big thing is how good or bad are the tires on the tractor??
I would almost bet if you filled the cylinder with ATF and let it sit a week if would free right up unless it was parked wit ha blown head gasket which does not sound like it

I just bought a non running 9N for $850 delivered yesterday. No implements though.

It's really clean and complete but to me its scrap and parts until proven otherwise. Just keep that in mind from the start if you go for it. You'll no doubt loose money if you did have to part it out or scrap it but it's not like its a total loss.

Make an offer on it based on what you can see. The talk about when and how it ran last shouldn't be a factor in your decision.

If you can get it to run and drive, even if it looks horrible, it's worth at least $1500 around here (Idaho). If everything works and its not leaking all over the place or otherwise distraught, you can get as much as $2500.

See mines a looker and not all beat up! The guys I got this from mounted it to a steel frame 4 years ago and covered it in Christmas lights. Every year they'd hoist into the air next to the freeway.

EDIT -> Around here, even busted up back blades will sell for $300.

Here in northern Il. if the tractor motor is not stuck and the implements are in good shape, It could be bought for 500 to 800 in the condition you described. You could have to have the motor, carb, and other items rebuilt. I would do a compression test before any work is done and see if I could get the tractor to run before spending monies for the rebuild. The condition of the tires and rims can add over 800 for replacement and the tin can be another 800 also. If all these look good and you feel that it could be worth while , then the choice of buying it and the amount is up to you. Good 6' mowers are selling up to 500, and good 6' back blades at 450 at auctions here. Look it over real good, then deside.
