Differential / Axle housing studs

1951 8N w/ leaky gasket at axle housing; pulled axle housing, but found problems w/ some of the studs---a couple are stripped/cross-threaded, couple have been replaced w/ bolts, etc.

I'd like to replace the bad ones, but not sure of size/pitch; for what it's worth, 2 different pitches---the part in the differential case has different pitch than the part that takes a nut;

Anyone know what these are and where I can pick up a few?

Thanks in advance . . .

Studs are supposed to be a forded fit. That is why
the thread that goes into the housing is a
different pitch than the threads in the hole.
Keeps them from coming out with the nuts.
Look on Mcmaster Carr web site. They have all
hardware etc.
Fastest shipping I have ever encountered.

David........first rule of studs; COARSE fer CAST-IRON, fine fer NUTS ...except... BRASS NUTS fer exhaust manifolds. 2nd rule; check fer BOTTOMING. You can HYDRAULIC crack yer cast-iron iff'n some oil/water is caught in bottom of BLIND holes. Use a "Q-tip" to dry out yer holes. 3rd rule; finger tight yer stud barrel into cast-iron then 1/6-turn tighter. Iff'n yer working with a "wet-hole", the barrel shuld stop the "leak" ...but... iff'n yer sphincterly challenged, no law sez you can use some "gook'em" to seal'em-up. teflon tape or Indian Head lacquer. NO SILICON!!!

As fer yer specific stud question; part no: 357724-S8 (7/16-14 x 7/16-20 x 1.86 stud) S8 means "plated". And yer gonna search hi'n'lo finding a 1-7/8 stud, use 2-in stud. Simple, eh? .......HTH, the studded Dell

7/16-16 x 1-1/2" hex head cap screws work just fine. You will probably want to keep the stud that is used as a tailpipe hanger. Any stripped threads need to be repaired.

I'm in New Hampshire but if I order by 4 PM I get the stuff from NJ the next day, for ordinary surface shipping rates. Pretty nice deal!

MC also has a bunch of very sharp and knowedgeable women to answer technical questions, who will dial up the manufacturer and find out answers, in a fraction of the time it would take you to, even if you had the secret numbers they must have. They can get a lot of stuff that isn't in the catalog, and tell you who the manufacturer is if the catalog doesn't say (as for some reason it often doesn't). I just wish they wern't so stingy with the catalogs, can spin through a webpage that way you can spin though a print catalog.

Unfortunately automotive style studs is one of the things McMaster does not sell. Summit Racing has a good selection and decent prices on Dorman studs:

If I'm not mistaken,that seems like the size of
studs used on the exhaust flange on Ford P/Us up to
the 70s at least. That means that there's a good
chance that an auto parts store may have
some,especially an old style one.

Hey, thanks to all who replied and, like, WOW!

Called the local NAPA store, turns out they have Dorman 7/16-20--7/16-14 studs in stock, able to pick up a half-dozen, just what I needed.

NAPA also had a 1/2 by 7/16 stud that I used to replace the big square-headed bolt someone drilled/tapped into the case, so now I'm back to all 716 nuts;

Bad news is that there's a crack at the bottom stud hole and a bunch of JB Weld at bottom of case, sort of sanded/painted. Not sure how much of a problem it'll be, I'm guessing it's the source for some of the leaking, but I guess I'll see once I fire it up.
