CL bent scraper blade

(quoted from post at 10:52:57 02/16/15) not mine

i like the text does not affect the operation at all.

suppose he knocke dhis noggin on the steering when that got bent? hard to imagine what it would take.
Bent but fine

Looks like the kind of extreme blow that could crack a differential housing, or cause link arm mount pins to start weeping gear oil, as was discussed in another thread.

Wow! That is the exact blade I have. I can't imagine bending it like that without breaking something on the tractor.

I had one of those for one year to plow snow. In that one season the blade developed a curve, the cutting edge began to pull away from the blade along the top edge and the pivot developed a bend back as well. There were no sharp kinks like in the one in the photo, but it was bent back gradually all around. They use 1/4" thick metal for the blade. Prior to that i had had a 5 foot Bush Hog brand blade on loan that I had used for several years to plow snow and it was still as straight as an arrow, but the owner needed it back so I bought the TSC blade and used it for one season. In the spring I sold it for $75, which was a loss of $150 or more but was all I could get for it. I wouldn't have one if someone gave it to me, they are pretty near worthless in my opinion.

There was a new guy on the Ford board that had hooked one just like that behind a 4000 SU (52 hp)
Not only was the blade bent but he sheared one lift pin off and bent the other. Plus as Zachery mentioned the pivot was bent too.
He asked what caused the damage.
Someone there said "That can happen when you hook a 25 hp blade behind a 50 hp tractor."
We never did see him again.

Years ago I was plowing with my 1951 8N. I was running low on gas and my wife was supposed to bring me some when she came home from town. She hadn't shown up so I decided to run into the small town and just fill the tractor. The tractor's lift was just lifting the plow a few inches off the ground. I was running in fourth gear near full throttle when I went over the railroad tracks. The tractor bounced and the back plow beam went under the track. Track 1 plow 0. It nearly straightened the beam and I went from 12MPH to 0MPH in an instant. The only damage was the beam and the steering wheel that had a slight upper curve from my legs. I was amazed that there was no damage to the rear end or lift system parts.

A new beam and a lift repair and it has been good every since.

Years ago I bought a blade just like that for $10. I completely disassembled it. I build a large fire in the forge and propped the blade in the fire. I had the entire bend bright orange. It took probably a gallon of pea coal.

Pulled it out, laid it on the anvil and it straightened right out with a few hammer blows. I did not have to straighten the edge as it was not bent. Repainted and replaced the pins and hardware and it looks and works like new almost 10 years later.

I would not hesitate to do it again, but I would not pay much for a bent blade.
