Well been a week ,i put every thing in it to soak,nothing is working ,but I have gotton it were it will move fan blade one inch buy rocking wheel back and forth I hope im getting closer to geting it unstuck.To cold here for at least a week, will let you know how it goes after that. thought about fill engine up with old motor oil till it comes out fill whole and try to get the crank oiled too. what do you think about that . than drain all out if it helps?
 
On the one's I've freed up, once they would move they would spin.
The only exception I had to that was one that had so much rust
in the cylinders it couldn't have spun without breaking a ring.
It had sat out in the weather and had the cylinders full of water.

I hope you're not in that situation. Do you have access to an
inspection camera to look inside the cylinders via the plug hole?

If not, I guess I would keep soaking it. Add some every few days
if it runs through. You're only out the ATF if it doesn't work.
 
Unless you have ATF in it wick what ever you have inn and fill with. Then forget about the tire thing and set a 12 volt battery in it and use short fast taps on the starter button. I have free up 20 plus engine that way and have a few I use every year doing hay that where that way and not had a head off many if any of them
 
Rick,If you can see the fan move 1" back and fourth,you have it coming your way.Just keep soaking it with ATF and rock it every day back and fourth.It will move more every day.
 
Have to disagree but then I have done so many locked up engines that I can read what is going on

Because such a locked up engine generally involves rust and corrosion, you need a thin, effective rust and corrosion solvent ( that is also a super oil) more than just an oil like ATF and/or limited solvents.

Personally I would empty a half empty (or more) of Amsoil MP into the cylinders -- using wands to direct it at the walls.

When you do get it apart, I guarantee you will clearly see the evidence that it worked.
 
like said, you got it now.
(whether it will run eventually is still dependent on the cylinder wall and ring damage)
Did you get all the water out of the cylinders so the solvent can get to where it needs to be?
I use a necked down shopvac, but an airline will work, messy though.

Just my way, not right or wrong,
after solvent and muscle get the slightest movement,
I switch from solvent to thin motor oil. lots and lots of oil.
also, when they move at all......I take a step back and
force myself to slow down and be patient.
It's moving now and I want to keep rust scratch damage to a minimum.

yes, lots of oil in the pan too, the cleaner the better.
once it's turning by hand the oilpump will be pulling oil and hopefully help you flush out oil path passages.

ps all valvetrain parts must move too of course. valves rusted stuck closed will stop you cold at that point in the turn...
 
Patience is key here. Moving fast can be costly. Mine was sitting in a barn for 30 years. Ultimately I pulled the head because I wasn't getting anywhere and I didn't want to damage the rings. It worked. With the head off I hit a 4x4 which was on the head of a piston similar to driving in a 16 penny nail a couple of times daily for almost a month. Again, I did not have the money to do an engine overhaul at the time. After failing to break it loose, I removed the starter and pried the ring gear. It popped loose which to me was worth it. The cylinders were somewhat rusty so each cylinder was set on BDC and I ran a bead hone through them. I blew them out, cleaned them with ATF, oiled them and reinstalled the head. I did have to remove the hood for all this. Eventually when I started it, it smoked only a little then cleared up. I'd do it again the same way but, I was not in a hurry. Some will suggest other techniques, but those may rely on experience to determine when enough is enough. Without knowledge of your abilities it's hard to say. Hope this helps. Gerard
