Opinion of Jube - Please

I posted a while ago about this Jube in Chilliwack ($500) -> http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/grd/4851412866.html

It kept nagging at me so I called him and he still has it. I'm seriously thinking of going and getting it. He sent me pictures of it with the backhoe and the plow on. Both look good from my limited knowledge and the 'restoration' he says it needs is a bit of paint and a new rear rim because it sat in a puddle for the last four years and rusted, and new hydraulic hoses. He say's it ran when it was parked there by a friend in 'marriage' trouble. What do you all think? Are they easy to get parts for like the other N's? The photos actually look pretty good compared to some I've seen.

TIA

Buy it now!
For $500 you could scrap it and make your money back.
But a lot of parts for the NAA/Jubilees are getting hard to fine as they were specific for those two years.
Engine will fit any 600, 601, 2000 prior from 55 to 64. Pretty mugh nothing will fit on an N.
If it has a backhoe on it it was likely run hard and could be completely worn out but parts would sell. Stuff like the hydraulic pump, hydraulic remote valve will sell easily.
If the hoe or dozer blade are decent they will sell too.
Make a little money to support your habit.

He said it will, but also told me that one of the rears had been sitting in a puddle for four years and rusted - I think he said through. So, not knowing anything about tractors, would a wheel (or two) be hard to find if I need one, or are they sort of standard size?

The rear outer rims are standard ford 28 inch rims.
Aftermarket 6 loops are available pretty much everywhere to fit
9N/2N/8N/Jubilee. All the same as long as they were 28 inch, other
than they are available in different widths for different sized tires.

I'd be beating a path to his door!
It becomes an even better super deal if one already has a Jube.

Spares, as the Brits call them, Heaven!:)

Too far away for me though.

Royse I think this deal one ups yours from the one that followed you home that time.
I would love to be living near Vancouver at the moment.

Definitely do what you need to and go get it.

Is it a Jubilee with the rare Live PTO option functional?
If so, and you do part it out, I'd be interested in those accessory fittings.

I'll keep you in mind TT - the rest of you can stand in line over there 8)

I'm really hoping that it will be a workable machine though. (If I get it.)

if you do buy it and decide to part it out remember this:

are you prepared for packaging and shipping hassles

are you prepared for all the dumb nits who will be contacting you

are you prepared for all the people who say they come for parts and never show up

are you prepared to have a hulk of a tractor sitting around for years until you get rid of all of it

if you are prepared for these and other issues when parting out then by all means go for it.

I would have to agree!
Hopefully it doesn't have anything major wrong with it.

That's what this line of work entails. If you don't like the hassle than don't post the listing regarding if you should buy it or not. [b:6af6ed5f34](Phil not directed towards you)[/b:6af6ed5f34].

Most folks on this site help each other and look out for things that may benefit others also and not just themselves.

"One dumb nit doesn't all make!!!"

Phil thanks for the tip.

geez, relax. my post had nothing to with folks here. how you read that into my post is beyond me. I have been buying and selling on ebay, CL and newspapers for close to 30 years and I know what comes with territory. hence my cautionary post.

Thanks all for the help so far. Here are a couple of pics:

What do you think? The upper piston on the backhoe has a rust problem but that can probably be re-chromed, hopefully.

You're the experts. I'm listening. Thanks.

The tires look like junk to me. That may be a big expense.
I still don't see how you'd go wrong for $500.
Loading and hauling it might be a chore.

I saw that - he did mention one of the rims is probably no good. I have a list of things I need to do on this property and the first one is to get the drainage sorted out so my top priority with a tractor is also a backhoe. I figure if I can get that working then the tires could be bald until I need to start doing 'normal' tractor things with it. Maybe.

Nice tractor [b:da6000bad4]PROJECT[/b:da6000bad4].

But how long and how much money to fix that hoe and blade, get the tractor running and usable, and put them to work on your drainage job? A nice reliable compact hoe rents for about $150 per day....

TOH

Heck, I'd pay 400 alone just for the front blade assuming all the linkage is there. They are a rare sight in my neck of the woods (NH)

I agree with the old hokie there. So I've decided to pass on this'n. I still feel that if it was closer and I didn't need a working tractor more-or-less soon that it would be a pretty good deal. It was the rusty hoe cylinder that tipped it for me.

Thanks again for everybody's input on this.

I just called the guy and he sold it last night! Funny he had no interest for almost a month and then when I mention that I was looking at it on this forum, it sold overnight. Not meaning to imply anything seeing as life is full of strange coincidences....

I'm surprised it was out there for a month.
It would have brought close to that much, maybe more, for scrap.
If he had sold parts he would have sold double that in two days.
For example, the offer of $400 for the front blade alone.
Deals like that are how I fund my tractor habit! LOL
Hopefully you'll find a good running one close to you.
Best of luck! :)

Thanks Royce. Here's another good sounding ad but it's at the other end of BC - 600 mi.

--- sold ---

So, good things come to those who wait. :)

This $500 tractor for sale north of me reminded me of that Jube deal. It's an Oliver though but looking like a worthy restoration candidate.
