OT Forum Strangeness

I tried to add my location, then noticed the occupation field so I added that too. When I clicked on submit, a message came up saying that the occupation field wasn't allowed. Why is it there then? So I took my occupation back out and it still said it wasn't allowed even though the field was blank. Then it showed blank fields for my user name and password. I eventually just closed the page and re-opened it but now I don't want to try again for fear of weirdness. :?

It;s likely the YT site is built using canned open source software and a generic forum "template" - AKA freeware. Some of the features provided in the basic template are not allowed and others are simply not supported. So they still appear in the UI but don't actually work. Removing them entirely would probably require a fair amount of work and possibly skills that aren't available.

I entered my occupation years ago when the new software was first put up. When I opened my profile just now it was still there. However trying to "resubmit" my unchanged profile generated the "not allowed for security reasons" error message. Somewhere along the line they turned that field off but never cleared it on all the previously stored profiles. Instant messaging and HTML posts from modern view are similar features that have been disabled.

TOH

Those fields have been disabled do to security reasons regarding spammers.

Any new entries or if you attempt to modify an existing entry in those fields will not allow you to save and therefore you will lose what you had in there.

 Don't ask how I know this.
