Continuing education for the 900lb gorilla?

Jim in Eastern North Carolina posted about an unknown wrench
in this thread and said it would be nice if it fit the drain plugs.

That reminded me of some of my recent efforts to drain transmissions.

While I appreciate the talents of the guys who have trained the
900lb gorillas to tighten the drain plugs, could we continue that
education just a bit further and have the gorilla include a gasket?
Maybe then they wouldn't have to be quite so tight to begin with!

Ok, rant over for the day.

The problem with the drain plugs is not just from being over tightened. The gaskets stick to the plug and the casting. I put a thin coat of anti seize on both sides of the gasket and it helps a great deal.

Yes, but if you think about it, that's what the gasket is supposed to do.
When they're stuck to the point of using a floor jack to hold the wrench
on and a hammer to turn it AND there is no gasket in there?
That's where I get the 900lb gorilla scenario.

Royse,Just a thought,I wonder if anyone has ever used a flat copper washer in place of the gaskes?I may try one the next oil change I do on one of mine.

I don't know why it wouldn't work Den.
There's no real pressure on those seals.
It would be an awfully big copper washer though.

I use the aluminum anti-seize on both sides of the gasket and in the threads of all three big plugs. Never had a problem since; of course, I don't tighten them with more than a good tug on a one foot wrench. It's not holding anything together, just has to not come out and not leak under hardly any pressure.
