I notice when I lift up on the clutch pedal the motor drags, when I push the pedal in it runs smoother is this normal?

Braxmaier,Cold oil in the transmission will cause the motor to have some drag or pull, once it warms up it will have less drag.

Very normal. Started my 2N yesterday and even with the engine at 3/4 throttle, I had to feather the clutch to keep the engine from stalling. The same will happen with my Toyota with standard tranny. No difference between the two.

This is precisely why you always hold the clutch down when cranking the engine.
