48 8N 6V front mount.

New battery, voltage regulator and wiring harness (the expensive one). Connected the battery and the starter spins and spins and spins.

Disconnected the starter button wire and it STILL is engaged...

I don't know where to even start, instructions for the wiring harness were doubled checked with the F04 diagram but hey I got a GED.

Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Check the wiring on your solenoid. It is the "switch" that connects the battery to the starter....

Solenoid will sometimes stick closed.
Try tapping it with a screwdriver handle. If it frees up
you may be good to go, other times they may stick again.

Solenoid sticking or the wire from the solenoid to the start button is grounded due to a bad wire etc.

rucker.......the 8N's starter solenoid is grounded by the BIG thumb button by the tranny shifter. Summtimms the starter wire that goes thru the bottom of the dash pannel gitts kicked and shorts out when climbin' inn'n'out. Other times, the starter solenoid is incorrectly mounted. Mount it so the little middle terminal faces the tranny where it is hard to gitt-too. As others have advised, a gentle tap fer a stuck solenoid is always the FIRST thing to try. Surprizingly enuff, yer 6-volt starter don't care whether positive (+) or negative (-) ground, it ALWAYS turns the correct direction. .......electrical Dell

If you have the small wire off the solenoid, and just bat and
starter wire, pretty obvious solenoid is stuck. As said, rap on it,
might release, might never Ben an issue, or might fail the next
start
