What are the extentions used for?

I picked this PTO extension up at a engine show a while back and just wondered what implements use or need these extensions? I don't have a need for it I just spotted it on the table of stuff the guy was selling. I knew what it was for right away because I've seen them on Ebay. The guy selling asked if I knew what it fit and I told him. He asked how much would it be worth and said I really don't know but it seems the ones on Ebay go for $30-$60... Even after saying that to him he asked if I'd give $20 for it. I told him I have no need for it but since it has the shield and a little bit of the original Dearborn sticker on it what the heck?? I was in the mood to buy I guess? LOL Anyway I just stuck it on a 8N of mine that is waiting for restoration. I guess you can say it's just a conversation piece at the moment..

It changed the pto shaft to the standard 6 spline 1 3/8" shaft size for use with other pto implements such as a corn or grain binder. It also put the pto shaft in the proper dimension with the drawbar vee hitch pin hole for use with the binders.

Ran one on an 8N pulling a IHC 10' grain binder many many years ago...

WE had a NEW Massey Ferguson 35X diesel Tractor and a new NEW Holland baller in 1963. The same adaptor that you have was required so the PTO shaft supplied by NEW HOLLAND could connect to the Tractor PTO. The Lift arms of the tractor were longer than the ratio of length for the PTO drive from the NEW HOLLAND Baler. Some Farmers just extended the length of the NEW HOLLAND PTO connector.

Combine, baler among other things. You need the V bar to go with it and that makes it conform to standards, Even used it with flail chopper to feed cows.

Picked one up last year for $35 so you done better than I did.

Reason I bought it was for the shield. My 15 yr old son always helps me chain up logs to drag up from the back woods and I am always petrified that he get too close to the spinning PTO. Since I have an ORC connected the cover doesn't fit so I removed the shield from the extension and bolted it right up to the PTO mounting bolts.
