location of battery ground cable

can somebody post a picture of where the ground wire from the battery to the tractor should be put?

Thanks.

On what model tractor? 6v or 12v?

All N's were 6v positive ground from the factory. So, the positive cable (actually, a braided strap) went to the bolt beside the battery box. The negative cable went to the starter or solenoid.

Most all 12 volt conversions use alternators & 99% of them require negative ground, so the negative cable goes to the battery box bolt.

s Bruce indicates, it depends on which tractor we are talking about and whether we are talking "restoration correct" or just looking for a good solid ground. Ns were grounded in four different locations, depending on time of manufacture and used different length ground straps/cables as well.

Bruce,

Thank you for the picture!

Actually 6v front mount. BTW, how important is it to have the mounting bracket on the voltage regulator?

I'm not doing a show tractor, Just want a dependable 67 year old tractor. Again thank you

Some Ns were grounded to the battery box but you
sure don't want to do that. The battery box is the
first thing to loose good ground from corrosion
caused by battery acid.
On steering box housing is a good place to ground.

Not sure I understand your question....

The new v/r's come w/ a mounting bracket. If yours didn't, it's a PITA to get the v/r attached to the dash support. The old style v/r had rubber bumpers so it mounted nicely to the dash support. The new v/r bracket mounts in the same holes in the dash, then you put the v/r on the bracket.

Does that answer your question?

It's not a show piece, but with YT's parts and everbody giving me advice I think I'll have her running this evening. When I do, I'll post the story behind it. Again, thank you.
