carb cleaning question

time to redo my jubilee's carb, this time im not taking any shortcuts, it runs fine now, but i dont have any low rpm, it has to idle around 1000, if i try lower it just shuts down, so there is something plugged up in there, have any of you tried using a wire welding tip cleaner set to clean the little passages out? i used air last time i cleaned it, due to a bad can of gas, [ contaminated] but apparently air alone isnt enough

Eric, try florist wire or an old used guitar/banjo string.
Torch tip cleaners will open up a hole, but they won't
bend around the curves and go all the way through.
Then use compressed air and canned carb/parts cleaner.

f you don't learn & know every passage, where it goes, where it intersects, where it terminates, you will never know if you really cleaned them. You have to take the time to learn. No air/spray/soak/or wire will substitute for knowing.

I use torch tip cleaner tool all the time but I also use compressed air and carb cleaner spray work all a few times then do it again for good measure. I also use a digrinder/Demrel tool to clean out the heavy stuff

pent a few hours with them. Hope others benefit!

Eric-
Best to let the carb soak for two, three, seven days in lacquer thinner, carb cleaner might work but todays stuff is EPA watered down crap. In the old days when we'd store the lawnmower, tiller, and snow blower -before 10% or more ethanol was the norm, we would drain the gas out then flush and fill with lacquer thinner. In the spring, drain and flush then ready to use. Old guitar strings will work too -use the high B or E string. You don't want to use anything that will 'ream' the orifice larger than it was made. As JMOR says, know the parts and procedure well so you don't muck anything up...

thanks guys i hadnt thought of the guitar string trick, ive been in these carbs several times on different tractors, this one sufferers from a load of gas contaminated with what looked like a liner out of a old military gas can we had, not sure why the can had a liner as it was never painted, just olive drab and rust no other color to designate special use other than fuel but its a ongoing problem for the jube now, fuel tank has been carefully cleaned already as have all the screens

I did Thanks... I have applied it to every carb I work on now it has eliminated questions about carb issues...

Others that say I do it on every one to make it look like they know there chit never said they did before you pointed it out... Makes me wonder about them...

I picked up some SS aircraft tie wire in a assortment of sizes off cracklist... If I never get to use it poke'N at a carb it will not make me mad... Carb work does not pay well....

Best I remember Bob did a wire trick on'em also... Spread the credit Y'all done good...
