I see a lot of remakes, are there any one better than one another, mine seems to leek and it freezes up nice and frosty on the outside, I thought about rebuilding it but im not really sure if i should try, the one i have is a Marvel Schebler, thanks.

Braxie........the M/S is the BEST carbie fer yer N-Engine and are eminently rebuildable. 'course some of us been doin' fer years. BTW the carb rebuild kit has "pictures" fer the reading challenged. There are a couple of members that rebuild M/S's fer $$$. And iff'n yer really a neubie at carbs, that might be worth considering. ...BUT... don't squander yer money on E-Bay wanna-bees.

BTW........"frosty" is NORMAL under certain climatic conditions. Infact, when yer flying yer Piper-Cub, theres a knobbie on the dash you PULL fer carb HEAT when yer making yer landing approach. BAD KARMA to run otta power when you need to make a go-around, eh?

Me? I grab some aluminum foil and make a carb HEATER wrappin' the carb and exhaust manifold. Be creative. .......toasty Dell

I concur with Dell. The Marvel-Schebler carb was the OEM supplier on Ford Tractors and are pretty simple to rebuild. I would not waste money on any new, aftermarket ones simply because of this fact. Get the rebuild kit that goes for 40 or 50 bucks as it has more new parts to replace. There is a basic kit that has only a few parts. Original M/S carbs are always on fleabay too so for a third of the price you'd pay for an aftermarket one, you can get an original used one and a new parts kit and have a good functioning carb. Just my opinion and advice...

I agree with the others, I like the M/S.
I'm one of the rebuilders Dell mentioned. If you want to
do it yourself I would be glad to help via phone or email.
YT sells a pretty good kit for them for $32.03
Another YT member just bought a used carb to rebuild.
That way he didn't have any down time if it didn't work
perfectly the first time. Might be the way you want to go too.
Never hurts to have a spare around.

went to you tube and there is a female that rebuilt one top to bottom, I think I can do it , didn't seem to hard but if I run into trouble I'll let you no. Thanks guys..

I'd buy a used one from a reputable source & rebuild it.

These guys should be able to help you w/ used parts:

Replace the AT in the address w/ @

A new or used carb won't stop carb icing. That's a function of temp, humidity & the venturi in the carb. Use tinfoil as Dell suggested.

Send yours to Royse to get rebuilt. BIL bought one of those M/S look alike and we had to put a spacer behind the choke knob so the tractor would run. Choke had to be pulled just a little.

Icing up is a fact of life and is normal operation of any carb on any thing. The atomizing of the gas causes thing to get cold and this time of year that plus outdoor temps equal ice. A simple tarp over the hood or other such cover to hold heat on that side of the engine will help. That is why old cars and trucks had a heat riser that sucked air off the exhaust manifold to keep the carb warm till the engine had warmed up enough to keep it from freezing the carb

You said leaking? Is that from the ice melting or is it truly leaking gas?

If you are not dead down or leaking gas everywhere, find a used one and rebuild yourself. Than install it. If no go you still have your original. If it works than rebuild your original.

There is great advice here and a few good instruction docs out there ( actually written by a few folks here) that will get you on your way.

Royse is definitely full of great info and will rebuild for you.

Are you referring to this video from Steiner? YouTube
It does show the basics of how to do it, but I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

I realize they were making a video, but she did not rebuild the carb they took
off that tractor, it was a different model and had already been disassembled.

Even then, she didn't replace all of the parts that should have
been replaced and she installed some of the parts incorrectly.

The instructions that come with the kit are a better guide.

If I have the extra $$ I would get a used carb and send to Royce. In fact it was something I was hoping to do this year but SWMBO just killed any ideas I had of fixing ANY thing again this year.

When the time comes, I have some already rebuilt and tested. Email's open.
