Unknown bracket on 8N

N is a 48 front mount with unknown history from East Texas. This old bracket is mounted to a head stud. Anyone know what it is for? If it has no purpose, I'm planning to remove it once I get a distributor.

I've been lurking for a few years and have complied a 4 inch binder of how to posts. Just figured out how to post pics so I hope you guys don't mind.

It was probably intended to brace that Delco Alt hanging out there. Set fan belt tension by rotating the alternator about its base.

You guys are right. I pulled it back towards the Alt. and the length is right. Loose Alt belt wore a hole in the distributor body.

I'll have to find better Alternator mounting brackets.

Saw your other post on the distributor body.

You could try a longer belt and roll the Alt out to get the belt away from the distributor. Most all front mount 12V conversions are done as you have puctured. Place Alt in original Gen brackets and brace to the head.

Can not tell for sure but looks like the alternator is not wired up like it should be. That plug looks like it only has one wire coming out of it and if so then it is not wired up correctly

Mount is ok just need a longer belt so that the alternator will sit lower and then the belt can not hit the distributor
