PTO Assembly.

Im looking to replace my PTO gasket and seal, after removing the pto adaptor I noticed my shaft was rounded pretty bad, and now I am looking into the complete after market shaft, my question is can I just pull the old one out and slip the new one in with out messing up something inside such as gears falling out of place. thanks for your time.

Yep. No problem, given one condition...the shaft splines aren't twisted.

Drain oil. Remove four bolts on the bearing housing and yank it out. It should slide right out. Avoid any urge to force it out or in. It may help to loosen the pump, but leave the pump bolts in...just loose. Twist a little in both directions as you're pulling it out.

If the splines are twisted it's gonna take some doing to change it out. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

On an 8N/9N/2N, since all oil reservoirs are shared, to avoid draining the oil just find a shallow ditch and drive the front end down into it. All the oil will run forward and you can then pull the shaft without messing with the oil.

That's a good way to oil soak your clutch....

If you got a leaky tranny seal (most do), parking nose down in a ditch will fill your bellhousing with tranny oil.

Just drain the oil and reuse it if it's clean. What's it take, 5 minutes to drain the oil?

" All the oil will run forward"

And it will fill up your bell housing & get all over the clutch if that front seal isn't brand new. Why take the chance? Drain the oil.

Just changed one in a TO20 Ferguson, with the help of guys on this forum-great help. I pulled the rear wheels up on 3in. blocks, drained oil from the rear drain plug only- about one gallon, took out the four bolts, PTO pulled right out and the new one slid right in. Leave the tractor and PTO in gear- this keeps the gears all in place and lined up. These mechanics know more than anyone at the dealerships.

ood to know, I see kits on ebay ranging from 75.00 to around 150.00 are these all the same quality?

Braxmaier, this site sells the PTO conversion assembly, but I got mine from Walt's, just because I was ordering some other stuff from them at the time. Both are about 95 bucks.

The one I got was from TISCO, and was made in USA, FWIW. It was easy to swap out. (I drained all the fluid from mine. Like Orville's, mine was on a Fergy TO-20.)
