Flooding carb update-

Forum,
Cleaned the carb yesterday and found fine, dark brown, rusty looking stuff at the bottom of the carb bowl. Did not reset the float. Did find a slight amount of dark material on the needle valve and removed most of it. Put it back together and it ran great today. May have been a combination of internal bowl crud and slight corrosion on the needle valve. Thanks for the help. Any and all additional thoughts are welcome.

I had the same thing happen in a carb..water got in when it rained because o didn't have 2 clamps on the bottom of the pipe on the rubber. It now has 2 and no issues since

Probably could have fixed that by simply pulling the carb drain plug and then let the fuel flow for say 5 minutes. You would want to catch the gas to save it and look for the dirt/rust you found but most of the time that is enough to wash the needle and seat out and clean the bottom of the carb out. I do that and also pull the main jet adjustment needle out ans spray carb cleaner into the carb

lisa.......uh? ya know ittza really tuff fer water to leak UPHILL from the mouth of yer carbie into inside the float bowl. .......respectfully, gravity Dell

Actually when it rained..ya know that nice hard rain...it is possible for water to get in the carb via where the air cleaner tube attaches to the carb if there is only 1 clamp on it and the fancy black hose maybe isn't quite on the carb all the way...leaving a space for water to enter...I'm fairly certain the carb bowl didn't just get water in it and get rusty all by itself. Maybe I didn't quite explain it in terms one would understand.
