Pop up Pistons on ebay

Wonder how much that would add to the power? Might make it
harder to keep a head gasket on it. Don't know if it would justify
the extra power?

(quoted from post at 22:43:41 01/24/15) My guess is they are flathead v-8 pistons used without sleeves. Just my guess.

I don't know much about them , but there was a company that made them just for the N's , which was fairly common .

I think I remember there being a V8 that has the same bore , compression height , and pin diameter , so it would be a possibility that they were originally for the V8 . Which could have been standard or .080 .

I have looked into V8 pistons .080 over because you would get two sets but I don't really see those for sale at a bargain price .

M & W made high comopression pistons for many tractor engines including the flathead N series engines.

Fuddy.......you do know when Ford changed from the 2N to the 8N, they UPPED the compression from 6.0:1 and 23hp to 6.5:1 and 26hp, don't you??? My guess yer pop-up pistons will up the compression to about 7.0:1 and 30hp? You can gitt the same compression increase by havin' yer flathead milled (skimmed) at yer local auto machine shop facility. (0.065" max; $50? cheap)........hot-rod Dell

I knew they up the power a little. Didn't know the Ratio or amount. I wouldn't want to remove any more metal off the block or head than needed to get a good seal on the head gasket. My understanding is the power was 'Upped' though the head design. Then the last 8Ns were given even a little more power. Believe those blocks are known as the 8N Cs if I remember right. But if you really need more power the best way is to get a bigger tractor.
By the way, I've dealt with that Seller and his Father (Father sells off CL) locally many times. Get great deals from them. Good people.

Looks like the hump was welded on... There is plenty of room for it... I would have thought the mod was forged from birth...

I run fire crater pistons in my Farmalls it wakes them up...

Not mine , just saw them , out of play money for the month

It might be hard to find used ones of that style that are good enough to re-use. I've removed several sets of those from N engines and every one had the upper ring landings badly worn so that the rings would flop up and down in the groove badly. All were oil burners. Not sure if the aluminum in the pistons was too soft to hold up, or if it was just the luck of the draw that every one I saw was worn. If I wanted to buy a set of those I think I'd be looking for new or NOS.
