NOTE: excuse my spelling mistake

First to start I would like to say a big tank you to everybody that did exchange with me regarding my 1940 Ford 9N
They say in life that persisting is a good quality and This is what I have done! It took me about a good 3 weeks of works before I get it to run again and I am very happy that I have found my problems.
When I got the tractor 2 years ago it was making sort of knock in front on the right side I did not know anything about tractor but people were I am said it was normal or could be sometime the governor that would make a bit of noise.
After running the tractor for maybe 4hrs it just died on me would not start any more there was a problem with the spark so I ordered all new parts including distributor cap, new plugs and wires etc (good tune up), still would not start, a friend suggest me to replace the point system by an electronic system (Pertronix 1247 XT), when came the time to open the distributor to install the new plate I found the fire problem, one of the flywing was out of place broken. I got a new shaft for my distributor installed the electronic system and never had any problem for about maybe 10hrs of work but the tractor was still knocking so I also ordered a new governor and replace it and still was knocking anyway.
Last summer it died again on me but this time was still starting good but would not take the gas and no power so I open the front camshaft casing and realize the camshaft gear was very loose ( this was a press on gear so I did ordered another full camshaft with the bolt on gear, so after installing it there was no way I can start it it was puffing all the time , I re did it for about 4 times trying to get the good timing , re adjust all the valves etc but still would not start, I used a special spark test light to see if I had a good spark and yes the light was flashing, I was told by one good friend here to get a better spark tester the one you can adjust to see the spark. I got one and he was right the spark was no good, so I decided to re open my distributor and realized again that it was broken again inside both wings were out of place luky I had a spare one so I replace the shaft re installed everything and everything finaly runs like a charm
To conclude this mean the camshaft gear was causing this problem I would call this two problems in one.
:D

I had to grind down the #3 distributer post, as it was slightly contacting the rotor. This was in a petronix distributer conversion. Also, the rotor to coil pickup had broke off as well. Good for me , as the previous owner gave up on making it run. I believe there was a minor misalignment, and thought mine was isolated. Maybe there is more to it than that.

I don't see why you had to grind something.
when installing the pertronix sytem you have to make sure the new plate that comes with it place very smoodly in the distributor, than place the timing screw in the center not to tight, place the ring back in the groove than tight a bit more the timing screw. I beleive if the rotor was rubbing it's because it was no position to good way it was forced in

hope this help!
