Flooding carb?

Forum,
Have a '47 8n that is hard to start if turned off and restarted when warm. Notice a lot of gasoline in the throat of the carb and suspect a float out of adjustment or needle valve not seating. Could one of these be the culprit? Any and all thoughts welcome.

Yes either one or both could be the problem. When you shut if off turn off the gas that way if will not be a problem. If it runs well other wise

Give your float bowl a couple of persuasive taps with a wooden mallet; it works like a charm (on my Rochester and Carters at least) for unsticking floats and needles . . . at least until you get around to cleaning the carb.

If it is the needle tip, then a gas additive "might" clean it.

olds right, drain carb into safe container and check fuel flow and crud. Turn fuel flow off and put drain plug back in. Turn fuel back on and tap lightly on carb body with a 5/8 combo wrench. If it still floods dismantle carb.shake float for gas inside, check needle and seat for wear or crud blocking it for a proper seat. Post back with what you find.

To eliminate carburetor flooding upon shut down as a possible cause, simply shut off the fuel and let the engine use all of the fuel in the carburetor.

Open the fuel valve immediately before restart and see if the symptoms change.
