hi I just got a 1941 9n tractor for 700. I've got it running. but when I put down my back blade it will not stay down I'm not sure where hyd. pump is or what the problem might be if any one can help me I would be very greatful

Got a users manual? Main hydraulic spring (big
spring to the rear of the seat) needs to be
adjusted, and or the hydraulic quadrant needs to
be adjusted. Those are the only adjustments
available on the 9/2Ns Internally there is a
spring between the control fork and the font of
the cover. It might be broken or missing.

I do not have a manual. I know next to nothing about 9n tractors. how do you adjust the spring behind the seat?

Is the 3pt (draft only) handle staying down or moving up when
you let it go.

Is the control fork moveing the t valve full in / out?

WHISKERS.......squander $20 (cheep) fer the F&O-4 manual. Available thru this site, YesterdaysTractors. Click at the top of the page, simple, eh? It even has pictures fer the reading challenged. It will help you with yer nue-to-u 9N tractor. ......respectfully, Dell the book reader

Here are the adjustment instruction from the
FO4 manual:
"To check the quadrant adjustment place an
implement weighing 200 or so lbsd on the lift
arms and move the touch control lever upward to
fully raise the lift arms. Then move the touch
lever downward slowly while observing the arms.
They should start to lower when the touch
control lever reaches a point 2 and 5/8 to 2
and 3/4 in from the top. If the lift arms start
moving before or after this point, loosen the
four quadrant attaching cap screws and move the
quadrant tow the front of rear as required.

To adjust the main spring -
" To check the control spring adjustment, place
the lift in the up position and remove the pin
which secures the control spring yoke. Using a
thumb to finger grip, note if the spring can be
rotated. If the spring cannot be rotated or has
endplay, adjust by turning the threaded yoke.
Adjustment is correct when the spring is free
to turn but has no end play."

Note most of the yokes are frozen in place with
rust. A lot of heat and penetrant can usually
loosen them.

GOOD LUCK and I suggest you get a users manual
and the FO4 shop manual.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on the tractor. If you're
pulling the blade and it starts to dig in it will automatically lift
up. This is called draft control. You can't set the blade a little
above the ground and plow snow, for example, because the
blade will keep moving up and down. This tractor was
designed to pull a plow for planting, and draft control works
great for that. A fellow named Zane sells a device to convert
the 9N to position control. It's called a Zane Thang, and works
great. 8N tractors have a lever to switch between draft and
position. Good luck, Jerry.

(quoted from post at 16:59:23 01/20/15) Is the 3pt (draft only) handle staying down or moving up when
you let it go.

Is the control fork moveing the t valve full in / out?
the handle stays down. what is the control fork? as you can tell I don't know a lot about tractors.

THANKS I do plan on getting a manual as soon as possible.
I do thank all of you guys for your help. I got this tractor not running. I don't know how long its been setting I put a battier in it found 40 lb of oil pressure so I took a chance on it. found that the wire going from the ignition to the coil was broken so it a easy fix now I just got to fix hdy problem and I don't think the govern works right. then I get the manual I should be able to figure it all out. I've worked on cars for 30 years.

Sounds like you got a good deal. Most people complain they can't
get the 3 pt to go up. You sound mechanically inclined. Get the
Manual and stay on this site. Lots of good people here ready help
you. You should do well with the tractor. Show pictures. And
Welcome Aboard.

ZANE THANG - Position Control for the Ferguson
System
This device is for the hydraulic lift on the
9N, 2N and TO Ferguson tractors that originally
only had draft control. My ZANE THANG gives the
lift position control just as effective as the
lifts all the later model tractors have. No
more chains and bars to hold the implement
where you want it to stay while in operation.
Just select the position and it will stay put.
Also, it will return to any previously set
position automatically. No part of the original
tractor or it's components is altered. You just
bolt it on in a matter of minutes with a couple
of common hand tools.

Time to get a service manual. Control fork is most of the linkage from the 3 pt handle to the pump control valve

Get with ZANE and buy one of his THANGs (position control device) before you tear into anything. It is simply the best thing you can do for your 9N or 2N.

I'll second that!
