moral obligation when selling a tractor

I have a 2 n i purchaed none running and have done some
work at getting it run and fix hood and fenders paint. The
block has two welds and weeps antireese some times the
sad thing is the oil presure is great and pto running is fine
tractor runs good. When i put it up for sale on craigslist do i
disclose all that is wrong with it my conscience is killing me
i sometimes point out to much.

Yep , fix it or point it out . Most weeps I have seen can be welded with a series of small tacks from a 6011 , if you are not on the edge or close to a gasket .

A couple hundred dollars is not worth having to look over your shoulder for the boogie man .

Full disclosure.

But first.

Have you tried draining her of coolant, preheating the old crack after wire wheeling it, then silver soldering or brazing over the old repair. Hard solder or brass will seal many a leak, and less heat than welding

Might just fix it that easy

Do what you would want someone to do to you, think that is one of the commandments. I really work hard on maintaining that one in business and personal life.

I've sold a lot of parts and a few tractors since I started this and agree with the others that it's best to disclose.
Often enough, you have people come back and buy something else from you, even after several years of not hearing from them.
You would never hear from them again if you sold them a part and they suspected you knew it was bad somehow.

Soundguy some times it looks like it is sweating alittle when it sits when it runs not at all sometimes not at all . It is looks like a pin hole when some body welded it . Explain the process for sodering . If a stop it i would feel better if i could point it out and it did not leek.

What ever you do today you will have to sleep with tonight. I would do as sound guy said try and seal it. Barrs Prestone Silver Seal. Miracle in a can is a cheap gamble.'?

I'd rather the seller (be it me or them) just be honest & price accordingly.
Everybody happy, happy, happy.

Just like soldering a copper pipe. Wire wheel/sand the area to shiney metal. If a weld bead, the wire wheel is likely easier.

Once shiney, hit it with paste flux, then use your plumbers torch to heat the area, flux more , heat more start scratching your solder till it wets, then just like wetting a pipe.

T,
Full disclosure is the best all around! Let the buyer decide on what is manageable and reasonable. Introduce the potential buyer to the Forum and let him ask away any questions or concerns he/she may have. This Forum has been an excellent source of information for my novice questions. You are on the right track-honesty.

Interesting thread....
Where do you draw the line?
I don't lie, and I don't hide flaws,
but 'it is what it is'
On a 70 year old tractor, I'd need a book to list every little thing.

The example above is good.
Block, external coolant leak. internally fine
weld, stitch, JBweld, even stopleak for minor ones.
Doesn't leak now.
But the block is [i:77ba83bae4]still[/i:77ba83bae4] flawed. Disclosure?

Example...at the moment I have 5 Farmall C/SC's.
I fixed one of them with the common Farmall block crack.
And I honestly can't remember which one it was.
Can't see the repair.
what to do.....

I also buy a lot of 'marginal' tractors.......if I miss something and I pay too much...it's on me.....I won't miss it next time.

Where do you draw the line?

When you know there is a problem that is not normal wear or with in working limits ???

It is half on the seller to disclose known problems and it is half on the buyer to ask specific questions .

I always liked the sellers that states "it doesn't run but it is an easy fix " ,,,,, Ok so why didn't you fix it is my first thought .

You gotta know when to hold um , you gotta know when to fold um , You gotta know when to walk away , you gotta know when to run .....
