It's Always Something Else!

I cleaned the flywheel up in my parts cleaner and got to taking a real close look and some of the ring gear teeth were very chewed up (hard to see when the old oil/grease was on there). So, I took another trip to the machine shop to drop it off so the ring gear could be replaced. He was doing the line bore later that day on the block so I couldn't get it yet. Boy, it's always mission creep when redoing one of these old machines. The machinist asked me if I wanted it resurfaced and I told him that I defer to his judgment on that. I only want to do this one time in my lifetime. Foolin' with these old machines gets naught naught expensive, I'm going to need "Jethro" to naught naught all these figures up for me.

GW, I know what you mean. Seems like every time I turned around, it cost me some bucks. But, it was all worth it to me in the end. Hope this will last me the rest of my life, cause I sure don't want to redo it again!! Have fun!!!

(quoted from post at 12:15:14 01/17/15) Often, you can buy a decent running N for what it costs to rebuild the engine on one.

What? And miss all the fun! Where else can you spend hundreds of $$$ and get a free back ache and get to donate some fresh blood through various wounds and....get to use all of the colorful language that you learned in the Navy! All at once! :x Oh, and don't forget the pizzing off the little red head that has faithfully put up with you for 37 years and all the toys etc, because you track/wipe/leave 50+ years old grease/dirt/mud on her floor/dish towel/tub/or in the washing machine. That last one about the washing machine is a killer right there....don't try this at home as she will hit the ceiling when she does a load of "her nice clothes" right after your greasy ones that you snuck in there... Thrill a minute there. Oh yes, and don't forget the dance like the three stooges and whhooop whooop whooop when that wrench slips and puts a nice gouge in you somewhere or that dead-blow hammer you swing to knock something loose with...manages to miss the intending target and gets your finger instead because you are upside down in a contortion trying to reach some inane part that nobody makes a replacement for anyway. Oh yes, and don't forget that blessed flywheel that you have pulled/banged on for 10 minutes that won't budge. The minute you stick your foot under there...it will magically just drop off all on it's own...on your foot. All in all, I call it fun ....most days...lol

I know what you mean. Im downsizing and have only one NAA tractor left. I think I stand to take about a $3000 loss not even figuring my time. Its easy to get carried away and I sure did on this one. Never thought Id sell it, but I guess you shouldn't look at it in dollars and cents. The trip was worth it and I learned a lot along the way.

I have a Ford/Nh dealer 4 miles from home, could not be more helpful people or more handy, did I tell you about my $21. backup ring for a lift cyl? Ouch.
